This is a good idea. I was going to start a thread on the free service offered by Polish authorities. I played a full 90-min game last Sunday and I didn't pay a thing. When I asked my friend why, he said that it was part of the drive towards encouraging people to play sport.

With no free public tennis courts in the city of Warsaw, their words sound hollow.

There are free tennis courts in Scotland. Warsawians just want profit :(

You must have been away for a long time Seanus. Trying to find a free court here where I am is impossible. The smarmy snob brigade have bought them all for their "private (I suspect swingers) clubs". :)

Nah, the local tennis court where I used to play is for medical staff but we used to go on anyway as nobody seemed to enforce any payments.

I suppose in most countries. In the States and in France I always played for free. It's a shame here, becuse the prices are high and many people just can't afford it. Court fees cost me almost as much as some people's rent. The only inexpensive sport is running. :)

Ive played two rounds of golf in four years as i refuse the absolute robbery of 200PLN per round at the Wroclaw Toya course.

Actually just checked the site and the green fee for weekends and bank holidays has just increased to 240 PLN.

That's absurd! I remember paying 6.50 back in the day. 25PLN, give or take. I've played some pretty decent courses in Scotland, those with championship options. No, not Murcar, Troon, St Andrews, Gleneagles or Loch Lomond but still. Hardhillock in Elgin was 30 quid, around 120PLN. A lot of the other courses in Banff&Buchan and around the NE were around 25 quid. I went on a golf trip in secondary school and it was great fun. However, WB is right. Why pay 50 quid for a course that just ain't gonna beat a Scottish one?

That's just daylight robbery through and through - no doubt to cater for the numbskulls who think that by paying 200PLN a round, they're somehow getting quality.

Do you know if there's any courses in Poland actually designed by anyone with any sort of reputation whatsoever?

I'd doubt it! In Scotland, we tend to attract big names given the game's stature. Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson have designed a couple of our courses. It just isn't big in Poland, the same in Japan. It's expensive to host people here.

It's a great way of getting fit in hilly Scotland. Even the links courses get you fit. However, golf is not a sport for free. Too many people would swamp the course and there would be mayhem.

240Zl? Hmm seems a bit steep. All things are relative though = to play a round on the remodeled West Course at Wentwoth will set you back £360 as a visitor = £20 a hole. Jeez

Wow, that's just ridiculous. The old 'friend of a friend' ploy may get you a discount. I used to love watching the tv competitions, esp Texas scrambles. All kinds of celebs played, e.g Nigel Mansell, Sean Connery etc etc. What was that programme?

Much fitter than chess players, but not as fit as bocci ball players:)

True. Then again, being physically fit and sharp can make you mentally fit and sharp. Look at Kasparov, he often worked out in the gym. Others like the Norwegian player, Simon Agdestein (I think that's it), played footie professionally too.

Oh, the thrill of golf. I'm grateful to God that we have some really top notch courses in Scotland.

Back to the thread, I will be taking advantage of the free footie again on Sunday. All I need to do is turn up and play, simple!

Where did you play footie?

I'm here two months and I love playing any sports. I haven't looked too hard really, just asking around about teams or 5-a-side and not getting much info!

I'm living in Wrocław by the way, any info would be great, Thanks.

I'm not sure about the scene up in Wrocław but many PF members are from there so I'm sure that they'll respond.

Gliwice is not so far but I wouldn't travel just for a game of footie ;) ;)
