There's a festival of Scottish culture in the village of Szkotowo (near Nidzice on the Warsaw/Gdansk road).

Szkotowo

I did. Only for a couple of hours. There was a pipe band, some stalls and such. There were bigger concerts later, with bands like Shannon but I didn't see them.

To be honest, some bits were a bit cringeable (like the local council guys dressing like a pantomime cast of Brigadoon) but as it was the first time they'd done such a festival, and it's a small place, I'd be a bit cruel to judge a whole weekend just on that. On the whole I think it was a brave and worthy attempt (shame the idea of road signs to tell you how to get there wasn't thought of!).

Apparently. The german name is/was Skottau. Apparently it was granted to knights who rode with the Teutonic Order in the northern crusades.

The things people did for faith back then, nowadays it's hard to get someone to go to church.

It was probably more likely for the spoils and the action.
