Coronavirus in Poland

Braveheart16
28 Feb 2020  #1

Now that Poland has new cases of coronavirus do you think that sufficient measures have been taken to prepare for further outbreaks? Is enough being done with the NFZ etc to have a fully trained and equiped medical staff who can confidently treat suspected cases? Are the public receiving sufficient information to keep them fully informed of developments and instructions on coping with coronavirus? How committed are the government in their arrangements to combat the virus?

Yes, good questions. People don`t believe the PiS government when they say Poland is fully prepared coz PIS are professional liars.

That is why I took necessary precautions to protect my nearest and dearest.

Smart as it was on the nightly news here that a dog had tested positive without showing any signs of it.

It is just feckin flu......which kills loads of people every year.....

More people died from guns today in Chicago then the entire country did from Corono.
That doesn't seem to be an issue though.

The mask is useless for NOT contracting the virus, it will not stop you from being affected. However, if you already have the virus, it can help you from spreading it to other people. For example: when you sneeze it will stop minute particles of water being ejected from your lungs.

Just flu..... get over yourselves.....

Seems like 50K ppl succumb to Influenza each year in the US alone.
washingtonpost.com/health/2019/01/11/flu-has-sickened-about-million-us-so-far-half-needed-medical-care/
US flu still elevated but dropping; deaths as high as 57,000
The flu has sickened about 7 million in the U.S. so far, CDC estimates

Im not worried about it either, just eat well and get all your vittys:)

Cargo, you couldn't get me on a commercial flight right now.

I wonder if they will have any good deals!!

Yet, most people believe that masks protect them.

I wish I had some boxes laying around to sell on ebay..Ive heard a box was going for $300!

Its only fear mongering by the Dems trying to politicize it, like everything else.

It's different from flu because there is no vaccine - the death rate is still low but several times that if flu. It will kill many more people than stabbing sir terrorists in Europe but probably less than guns do in the US.

I'm like Joker though - eat healthy and get rest and I am still flying - 4 times in the past week - and still behaving as normal..

I don't think it is a Dems plot because we don't have any Dems here in Poland and in most European countries it is an issue. If it gets bad then it might show up the difference between our public health systems and the US private system.

I'm worried about the economic damage - stock markets were overvalued anyway and were just waiting for a spark, but I think will end up maybe 20 percent down. I'm not selling the US market or French / German because what I have in dollars and Euros will probably make in currency gains what it loses in stock prices. The falling zloty will be a problem for Poland for sure.

If Serbian president says that only business need to worry for corona, then don`t worry for health and just go on, care for business.

Thank you for your comments so far....particularly on the benefits of masks and reference to potential damage to the economy... but I was more interested in views and opinions from people living in Poland rather than the USA. Recent developments of the virus and steps taken by the government would be of interest, including opinions from politicians or the public on what is occuring in Poland now...

They say in Germany till up to 70 percent could catch it. The ways of infection are different and much quicker. And then compare the death rates with the Influenza...that will mean masses of dead people.

Not to mention that it will have a much worse outcome for the global business than the influenza...the markets are already in free fall...people can't go to work, firms will have to close down, supply chains are broken, much needed goods will run out or will have to be rationed before etc...compare that with the influenza!

But then there exist a possibility that it will let up once it get's warmer, like SARS back then...

government when they say Poland

Some governments are less transparent than others.

With the Coronavirus issue, it's a new virus and the situation is developing fast. The best thing to do is follow practical advice, wash your hands etc.

I did notice that Rossmann etc have sold out of hand-sanitiser; this at least shows that people are taking it seriously.

I was more interested in views and opinions from people living in Poland rather than the USA

We were in Rome at the weekend. Everyone entering via Ciampino had to stand in front of a thermal camera. Returning to Poland (on a full plane), there wasn't a check. Whether Poland starts checks or not is presumably a matter that the Ministry of Health would decide on.

Bratwurst Boy....thank you for post...some food for thought.....it is particularly worrying to know that there is now one case in the UK where it seems the patient had not travelled out of the UK and had caught the virus in the UK. Contact tracing is something that is now being undertaken and in other countries such as Italy etc. The other 20 UK cases involve patients who had travelled abroad etc. I also understand that in Japan a tour guide had contracted the virus twice, although there is some discussion on whether the test for the virus was conducted properly.

.....where it seems the patient had not travelled out of the UK and had caught the virus in the UK.

Exactly the same just happened in Germany!!!

The infected before could be all followed down to some Chinese, but not the new one...they can't find "patient Zero"...till now no connection to some traveller at all! That is scary. That would mean that virus is already in the air all over the world now....

a tour guide had contracted the virus twice

Yes, that would mean there is no immunisation of the body at all....

Naah, I don't buy this Welt Virus Krise stuff. They're just panicking as usual. Besides, whoever is supposed to die of virus, will die of virus; whoever is supposed to be run over by a car, will be run over by a car. Whatever. Relax people. *yaaaawn*

There are good news too Torqi....it seems kids can transfer the infection but they don't get themselves sick...nobody knows why though...

Most endangered are old male sacks...that would mean half of PF! :)

Its good to know that the Italians are checking but I wonder what happens if you haven't yet developed the symtoms but a few days later when you arrive back in Poland you then fall sick. It seems extreme but should all passengers returning to Poland from for example Italy, South Korea or any country for that matter be placed into quarantine on arrival to see if the virus materialises rather than allow the passenger to enter the population and potentially spread the virus to others.

Yes, that's of course how it spreads; there seem to be different opinions on the length of the incubation period. We were told that Rome was OK (but north of Milan wasn't). Plenty of people coughing on the plane; some of them had attended large gatherings at the Vatican. Rome was also full (loads of them) of Scottish rugby fans for 6 nations match.

Travel is grossly overrated and - with the internet in every hut, tent, and outhouse - unnecessary.
Twenty hours on the damn plane to see Wawel or Palac Kultury? Hell, no.

Travel is grossly overrated

Plenty enjoy it for leisure; plenty more have to do it for whatever other reasons. Nobody is forcing (or encouraging) you to join them.

Coronavirus however has many vectors. This issue is whether or not Poland is well-prepared.

Well I will be thinking twice before my government sticks a needle in my body.
Let's take a look at this from another angle that makes perfect sense.

IS the Coronavirus really a Hoax ?
tmatthewphillips.com/2020/01/26/understanding-the-corona-virus-hoax/

China had millions of people protesting on the streets against it's government.
Has anyone seen them on the news lately ?
Hell no, they are all quarantined. (house arrest.....problem solved)
Another factor is that Trump collapsed China's economy so China collapsed the American stock market in revenge.
Atch was the first one to post anything sensible about this flu like virus.
It only kills .01% of the people that contract it which is less then the normal seasonal flu that goes around world wide every year.
The Coronavirus is just more easily transmitted and contagious then the normal seasonal flues.
Compare that to the number of people that get shot by a gun every day in Chicago or St. Louis.
Nobody in Poland or the U.S. has died from the Coronavirus yet.

Wedding in PL in April. Wifey and I have already bought the tickets, including a side trip to Venice, Parma, Cinque Terre and Milan. Then the north Italy virus broke out. Considering a change of those plans....

Travel agent says it is too soon to cancel the Italy leg of the trip, but if it worsens, we may have to.

It just startet...right now the most infected and dead people are Chinese....that can change in a few months...nearly every country will get their cases...it's NOT the flu!

Johnny - you are a grown man. Did some Chinese guy come and hold you a gun to your head and tell you to sell your Tesla stock?

Or did you rather think that you had a good run made a few bucks and it was time to cash in because the world was looking a bit more volatile?

If they wanted to crash the US stock market then surely they would be an easier way to do it like hacking the computers. But in any case it makes no sense - china has a huge amount invested in the US economy.
