slightly to the right

You surprise me,because I see absolutely no evidence of ANY right wing views from your posts.

I have just watched the first two episodes of The Polish TV series 1983.
Well filmed, well acted and the story is morbidly Polish.
I just wonder if any of you out there have watched it and what you thought of it.

Not inserting a space before the full stop or a coma doesn't make your stiff upper lip look any wiser, sir.

Pedant!

Right on, Ziemowit!

Pawian explained it very well, whereas your truly British stiff upper lip comes into sight again and refuses to accept very simple things

Your English is not that good either.
Why are you so obsessed with the British stiff upper lip?
Weird.

Dougpol1

Because Ziemowit is obviously an academic of certain years, like myself... not the academic part obviously, but I refer to age....(probably History or other humanities) who has fallen for the old adage that the average Britisher ( when not being arrested at throwing out time at 11PM for drunkenly tipping off a policeman's helmet) says "What ho!" as a greeting, and invariably pulls the cord in his lounge for tea and scones at 5 PM. It's not Ziemowit's fault - the Polish education system perpetuates these silly stereotypes.

Right on Ziemowit, what a very nice compliment from a British guest in your country to recognize the privilege that he and his dog are allowed not only to reside in Poland but also afford himself a living in Poland.

That`s obvious, Slovaks just think about having fun in life while Poles are preoccupied with improving the world and its erroneous ways.

To be honest, I don't understand precisely what Doug said since - as Milo says - my English is not that good.

your English is not that good

I may only guess from your post, Johnny, that Doug's comment towards me may not be nice, but I may be wrong. Doug is certainly wrong when saying I am an academic who I am not and never have been.

Why are you so obsessed with the British stiff upper lip?

It is because it is considered bad taste to reproach someone for maybe incorrectly using a language which isn't this person's native language. You do it on a regular basis on this forum which - I think - may be attributed to your stiff upper lip or an inflated super ego perhaps.

Your English is not that good either.

Neither is your Polish.

Agreed.

BTW, your English is very good. Any slight stylistic 'error' is consistent with being a proficient second-language user.

It may not be your English that is not that good Ziemowit, it may be Doug's.
You do remember when Rich corrected Doug several times when Doug was posting/using English improperly.
That had to have been most embarrassing for Doug the English instructor since the Brits never admit to being wrong.

BTW, your English is very good.

His English is excellent compared to anyone here anyways.

Dougpol1

Doug is certainly wrong when saying I am an academic who I am not and never have been.

Well, your knowledge of history et al is very extensive, which is the mark of a good education in the humanities. Your only problem here is that you always suspect people are being negative, and you should simply accept true compliments when proffered, the best of which are unsolicited. You're still off the mark though in some of your assessments of the British psyche. Why not take a long holiday in Britain? You never know - you might enjoy it.

25 Mar 2019  #40,274

Doug stop making a tit of yourself.
He has already spent an extensive time in the UK.
That is part of the reason his English is so good.
Anyone who sets themselves up as an 'English teacher' and then b.iatches about perfectly good speakers of that language, as part of a discussion, is just showing their own limitations/stupidity.

I am sto pro cent sure that Z is better educated than you are, so please, stop trying to patronise him.

Couldn't give a fuckk either way. I say something pleasant about the chap and the forum starts debating the compliment. Weird.

* Posted in Random, since it's off-topic:

The Polish obsession with health, illness and medication just does my head in......Poles are hyperchondriacs.....

Reminds me of the Frenchman, the German and the Pole, walking to a bar on a hot day. The German says "I am tired and thirsty, I must have some beer!". The Frenchman says "I am tired and thirsty, I must have some wine" and the Pole says "I am tired and thirsty, I must have diabetes"...

Not weird Doug, it is a compliment back to you on how much we all like you so we tease you just a tad.
You are the one that got nasty by calling innocent Roz nasty names.
Seems the Brits just can't take anyone poking fun at them.
Take this for the latest example as you can't make this stuff up. LOL
British Airways plane lands in Scotland, not Germany
LONDON - The flight on Monday seemed to go perfectly well, until passengers realized that their plane had landed in both the wrong city and the wrong country.

The British Airways flight from London City Airport was supposed to head to Duesseldorf, Germany, but ended up in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.

What a Hoot !

Maybe this short video will help you understand how to listen to them.

Thanks so much. Now, finally, I got it. They are morons with a nail.
The really frightening part: We were so close to actually have one of them for president.
As a compensation and the final warning, God gave us that brick with the lipstick that glows in the dark and the voice of an 8-year-old to dispel all doubts where we should not look for brains.
