Should an alleged gangster run a national magazine?

Speaking hypothetically of course - should a man connected with a series of the most serious crimes you can name be allowed to remain in charge of a national news magazine? Or should he be presumed innocent until convicted? Should people who help form public opinion have relatively clean hands?

No, I will not confirm or deny any names.

Is it a rhetorical question? Most (if not all) people in the highest government positions are criminals. It's been like that since centuries (granted, we know more these days thanks to the independent media and the Internet).

Yep. That is the law.

I can think of more serious charges than allegedly being a gangster, but men convicted of those crimes are allowed to carry on being priests with unsupervised access and power over children.

Or should he be presumed innocent until convicted?

If somebody alleges Kaczynski is a gangster, does he have to stop claiming to be a politician? Would Father Director have to give up his radio and TV stations? If so, we'd better get some riot police outside the prosecutor's office to control the massive queues that will form instantly.

Here we go again. Stara płyta! Harry, why not microchip the bastard and send him to the "cosy corner"!

There really wouldn't be any point in microchipping them, those chips have a very very limited range (I'm idly toying with the idea of getting one put in my own hand but at the present point in time there's not much that can be done with the things). But I would imagine that a GPS bracelet and an order to stay away from places children congregate would be pretty standard to for anybody on bail before a trial for accusations of child abuse (although it does seem the RCC does allow convicted paedophiles to again work with children).

Which brings us back to the question the OP asked, should a man connected with a series of the most serious crimes you can name be allowed to remain in charge of a national news magazine? One could argue that after sufficient proof has been offered for a trial to be order there might be a case to be made but when all we are talking about are unsubstantiated rumours, there most certain is not discussion needed at all.

Fair enough. Teachers in France accused of paedophilia remain teaching until charged.

Is he or she accused of that?
