Personal protection in case we travel to the states or another.3rd world.country?

How about right there in Australia where you live smarty pants.
An Australian mosque reportedly visited by a 15-year-old boy before he shot dead a civilian police employee in an "act of terrorism" has been raided, police said Sunday, as authorities boosted efforts to tackle youth radicalisation.

New South Wales state police said the mosque in Parramatta in western Sydney -- close to the scene of the double shooting on Friday afternoon --

No wait, didn't the citizen's in Australia turn all their guns into the government ?
Where did this kid get one then ? (When guns are outlawed only the outlaws will have guns)
And it's only to get worse........

They were mostly bought back.
cnn.com/2015/06/19/world/us-australia-gun-control/

Firearm-related death rate per 100,000 population per year:

Australia: 0.86
USA: 10.64

johnny reb

Australia: 0.86USA: 10.64

So USA had 10 times as many fire arm deaths as Australia.
So the USA has 14 times as many people plus Australian citizens don't have any guns and everyone in the USA has one.
I would say the USA is ahead by leaps and bounds statistically.

TheOther

So the USA has 14 times as many people ... I would say the USA is ahead by leaps and bounds statistically.

Johnny, please read again. The base for those numbers was identical for both countries: 'per 100,000 population per year'.

Australian citizens don't have any guns and everyone in the USA has one

That's why the numbers are in favor of Oz.

delphiandomine

Er, Johnny... :D

So USA had 10 times as many fire arm deaths as Australia.

More than 10 times. Around 12 times.

So the USA has 14 times as many people plus Australian citizens don't have any guns and everyone in the USA has one.

You do realise that the number posted was...

Firearm-related death rate per 100,000 population per year:

In other words, Johnny, you were 12 times more likely to die from firearm-related reasons in the US than in Australia.

I would say the USA is ahead by leaps and bounds statistically.

We agree. The USA is far, far more violent than Australia.

those people were brainwashed

Now, now play nice, as one could very well argue that it is you people that have been brainwashed. Either by your occupiers or by your ruling classes.

Once you call him out with facts that contradict his Tea Party views though, his favorite animals are either weasel or crickets, if you know what I mean. :)

Oh I do know what you mean :)

You still haven't answered my simple question: why would we need guns in Europe?

Unfortunately Polson, you won't get anywhere debating this with Johnny. I gave up trying. He thinks Europe needs to be armed for the onslaught of Muslim refugees and that we will all be begging to have guns.

johnny reb

Right, until next month you mean.
I can't make some drink here even if I have my boot on the back of their neck in in the water.
I certainly am not the lone ranger when it comes to gun ownership.
Here in America for example the biggest gun salesman has been Obama.
With the same socialist views you Europeans have been brainwashed with the majority of people know better.
The FBI conducted 1,795,102 firearm background checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in September, suggesting gun sales were at an all-time high last month.

The number of background checks represents a new record, up more than 20% from the previous September high set in 2012, when 1,459,363 background checks were conducted.
September is also the fifth month in a row to set a record for background checks. May, June, July, and August all saw record numbers.

The reason for this is because the people in America know what is coming down.
And when it does the Europeans will be begging to own a firearm too.
My guess is that when the European government starts handing them out that it will be to late as nobody will know how to use one properly.

Polson

suggesting gun sales were at an all-time high last month.

Why you keep enriching the ones who promote insecurity and death is beyond me. But I guess I must be a brainwashed socialist.

The reason for this is because the people in America know what is coming down.

Are you saying American people are about to rebel? Does America suck that bad? ;)

And when it does the Europeans will be begging to own a firearm too.

Again, we're not as paranoid as you are. And even if we too had to rebel someday, ever heard of Ghandi? Or Thoreau's civil disobedience?

Violence is not the only way.
(Also, considering the HUGE amount of money (from the taxes you pay) that goes directly to the 'defense' and military budget, the average American hasn't got a single chance with his regular rifle. Cowboy era's over, Johnny)

Unfortunately Polson, you won't get anywhere debating this with Johnny.

Not the first time I debate with him, but I kinda like it ;)

delphiandomine

The reason for this is because the people in America know what is coming down.

And the reality is that the people of America would have absolutely no chance in an armed conflict against their government.

johnny reb

We do have the most powerful military in the world no doubt about that.
Trump is going to make America great again so we don't fear such nonsense.

Trump is going to make America great again so we don't fear such nonsense.

One thing I like about Trump is that he couldn't care less about who he offends. It's remarkably honest in an era of stage-managed politics in America where candidates are all expected to behave in a certain way. His honesty about not being informed about many things is actually quite realistic too - especially compared to the others that just say stupid things when asked.

Trump should declare that he would only stand for election once like Ventura did - it would give him the credibility of being able to do whatever he wants as opposed to always thinking about the next election.

I might not agree with him personally, but there is something different about him. The rest of the Republicans...blah.

TheOther

Are you saying American people are about to rebel?

Johnny and his ilk have multiple fears/ reasons to arm themselves to the teeth:

- the government (a.k.a., the very people they voted into office) takes away their guns and turns the USA into a dictatorship.
- the Rupture is coming
- they are so afraid of life that they have become preppers
- they've made gunning down Bambi a fun family tradition
...

Johnny and his ilk

More like TheOther and his ilk.
You do have a terrific imagination to think all that b.s. up about what I think.
You have sunk to delph's level.

TheOther

So tell me, Mr. Teflon, what are your reasons for gun ownership? Personal protection? From what? Some potential burglar who might break into your little hut to steal your last buck?

johnny reb
11 Oct 2015  #260

Sorry Junior, you and delph insist on taking this threat off topic for a personal p!ssing contest.
Maybe you guys could call each other on your cellie if you just want to argue your b.s. ?
Remember that there is a 9 hour time difference between the west coast of the United State and Poland however.

As an American citizen that lives on the west coast of the United States of America I see how this makes your opinion on Europe

and their freedoms of self defense so authoritative.

Imagine, Johnny - there are people who have actually lived abroad for a very long time. 'Abroad' is a place beyond your county line, in case you do not know. LOL!

johnny reb
12 Oct 2015  #264

there are people who have actually lived abroad for a very long time.

I am sure there are a lot of people but in your case of being a exchange high school student to Germany for a year hardly counts as a long time.

Now me, I have spend years living abroad.
I don't know what any of that has do with gun ownership in Europe though.

TheOther

I am sure there are a lot of people but in your case of being a exchange high school student to Germany for a year hardly counts as a long time.

FWIW (since one of our lovely mods decided to send the rest of this thread to the bin again) ...

It probably hasn't dawned on you yet that there are plenty of people out there who were not born in the US, who have lived all across the globe for most of their life, and who travel frequently abroad on business trips. I'm one of them; you're quite obviously not.

I don't know what any of that has do with gun ownership in Europe though.

Everything. If you are in the position to compare a large number of countries to the US, you will quickly find out that nowhere else in the world are people so paranoid when it comes to crimes and guns. It doesn't even cross the mind of Europeans or my fellow Aussies for example that they'd need a gun to protect themselves against crooks. Why? Because most crooks don't have guns in Europe or Oz.

Anyway, since we are flogging a dead horse for quite some time now, this will be my last post in this thread.

With rapes sky rocketing in Germany you can bet women there would carry for self defense if it was legal.

The guns were there, he took them and shot at innocent people. Is that your idea of a safe society?

Then is legal murder called abortion that kill what percentage of innocent compared to guns ?
You call that a sane society ?

Roger5
18 Oct 2015  #267

Although it is completely off topic, I'd say that societies which allow abortion on the grounds that the mother's health, whether mental or physical, is at risk are sane. Societies which insist on mothers carrying pregnancies to term, even in the case of rape, are cruel. Societies which condem abortion but allow it in the case of rape are philosophically confused.

johnny reb
18 Oct 2015  #268

Regardless of your personal views of murder my question was,
"How many innocent are killed by abortion every year compared to how many innocent are killed by guns every year ?"
Anybody want to google that stat ?

Polson
19 Oct 2015  #269

Then is legal murder called abortion that kill what percentage of innocent compared to guns ?

I'm not really pro-abortion (I mean not in all cases), so I don't know what to tell you.
Not sure there's any 'sane society' anyway. But some are worse than others.
All forms of violence can be considered insane. Go visit a slaughterhouse and you'll see.
I would rather carry a Taser than a gun (if I really had to carry anything). You only need to neutralize your aggressor after all. You don't have to kill him, do you?

But again, Europeans are not Americans. Your folks live in fear more than we do in Europe. And you probably have reasons to feel that way. But no need to force your fears on us. As I said, we're good, don't worry for us ;)

johnny reb
20 Oct 2015  #270

I'm not really pro-abortion (I mean not in all cases), so I don't know what to tell you.

Of course not as it is o.k. to legally murder babies by the millions (32 million world wide so far this year) but it's not o.k. to own a gun to protect yourself with only a little over 10,000 homicides world wide this year by guns !

How insane is that ?

As I said, we're good, don't worry for us ;)

Cool, I'll tell Obama to bring our military and all their guns that protect you back home.
How good would you be then ?
