Passion without goals...

Is a dangerous thing. It will burn you up inside. Many users of this forum espouse a virulent form of nationalism, a knee-jerk feeling of ownership in one country or another, particularly Poland. What's striking about these people, and their self-described "Pro-Slavic" ideology? Most of them aren't residents of Poland. Identifying with something that's both inside yourself, and yet ultimately far outside is pathological. There's something missing in these slaves to a DNA they embrace without fully understanding. We all have an innate desire to BELONG, but usually to something more grounded, more tangible, than ethnicity. It's a fawning idolatry that is destined to disappoint. These zealots are much like celebrity-worshiping stalkers. Harmless at first, but ultimately a menace, as they will never achieve the recognition and affirmation they crave from that which they idolize, and will turn to resent the time wasted, the energy expended. Think of murdered movie and music stars, they were killed not by haters, but by their own fans.

Find me a German who does not want to belong to German culture.

Why? My point is that you must mind the gap between social identity and social comparison. This applies to everyone.

Like Anglosaxons want to belong to Anglosaxon world,Germanics to German world Slavs want to belong to Slavic world. What is wrong with that?

What is wrong with that?

It's far more helpful to look for similarities among those of us that don't share something so pat as the colors of a flag. Pride in one's people is a hateful endeavor, as it means subjectively deciding who your people are, and more pointedly, who they are NOT.

and their self-described "Pro-Slavic" ideology?

Have you ever heard in real life a Pole saying sich things? I haven't. It's just an invention of this forum.

It's just a forum, don't take it too serious. Do you know what Lem said about the Internet? That before he started using it he had had no idea that there is so many morons in the world! :)

Never.

Bullseye.

Me neither. It seems to be exclusively the goal of lonely people who are clinging to some sort of identity - they usually blame the "New World Order" for everything. Remember that PolskiMoc fool on here? He was exactly the same - quite obviously disturbed, and had some very warped ideas of what it was to be Polish.

If you see all the mockery on here about offering the Polonia a chance to come to Poland, it's usually because they haven't got a clue about Poland and yet think that they know everything about it.

Identifying with something that's both inside yourself, and yet ultimately far outside is pathological.

Definitely. The way that none of them will take me and Harry up on our offer to actually live here for a year tells you a lot about them.

That's a very interesting point, I like it.

Thankfully, most of them will never be in a position to hurt Poland.
