English speaking? Needed in Poland?

My bf is polish but is trying to learn English, but it's very hard. We can communicate in other ways. The question is does he need to learn it? He has lived here 8 years so I'm wondering if it's necessary

Mess with his mind! Find a Swedish course and convince him that it's English and then follow around as he tries to use his new language skills. Film it and put it up on youtube.

Learn Czech instead and tell him it's your version of Polish. Make him work for your (dubious) physical favors...

That would be mean. And it only became apparent that he didn't know English once we became intimate

..or how about a Polish tongue-twister five times fastLOL

Recently, I applied to teach remedial English at the local Polish Consulate General in Manhattan. Apparently, they have some call and when I arrived (speaking completely in Polish), I requested to speak with someone in charge who might put me in touch with the person hiring English aka private Polish-speaking ESL tutors to instruct their consular staff.

I was introduced to the "head teacher" for English, a young Polish woman of approximately thirty or so, and was immediately bowled over by her rather decided Polish accent as well as occasionally halting grammar! After the interview in Polish and English, I thanked her and left.

Outside the office with the door closed, I remarked to the secretary that the Consulate should be eager for an native English speaker. "Oh, our staff wouldn't even notice the difference.", was her reply.

I ended up getting the job.

So what's everybody's view on whether he should learn English or not?

Lyzko

He should most definitely learn English, but his partner should also try to learn some Polish:-)

Dreamergirl

Maybe you guys should sit side by side and read books on each other's languages. He reads a book on English, you read Polish. Bonding.

Dreamergirl
