Just another opportunity for the Republicans to reveal their massive hypocrisy.
There is a major difference between now and 2016: the amount of mail-in ballots expected in this election. Even before RBG's death, it was thought there would be a very high probability that there will be a court challenge to the counting of ballots. The Supreme Court will decide those challenges. You can't have a 4-4 decision, because that settles nothing and could throw things into utter chaos.
It would be great if the Senate could strike a deal where they hold off the SCOTUS appointment and eliminate the mail-in ballot canvassing and demand some form of identifying the person with each mail-in ballot. Highly unlikely that kind of compromise will be had.
