I don't know if this originalist method is conservative or not. But it's certainly unhelpful and impractical....isn't going to solve many of today's problems.
It's the legislature's job to solve the problems of today, not the courts. Laws that govern the people of a democratic republic should be made by elected officials who are answerable to the people. The job of the Supreme Court is to ensure all receive equal justice under the law and that legislated law does not violate the Constitution of the USA.
You need to look at the US Constitution as the foundation and frame of a house--it shapes the structure and gives it stability. Legislated law is the plumbing, electric, heating, doors, windows, paint, fixtures, etc.--new things can be installed in the house and things can change over time. But, the integrity of the structure is maintained by the foundation and frame. Now, if you decide to make a change in the house that compromises the integrity of the structure (like, say, propose to remove a load-bearing wall), that threat must be removed to ensure the integrity remains.
I've just read Trump still has an account in China and paid more taxes there than at home in the US
It's not in the US media so far--not even CNN. I didn't read the story, but as you describe it there's absolutely nothing wrong if he does have a Chinese account and paid Chinese tax. He'd be able to use the Foreign Tax Credit on his US return to offset what he paid in Chinese tax.
@Bratwurst Boy
CNN just posted something about it. It's not a personal account, but a business account the Trump Hotel Management Organization opened a few years before Trump ran for Prez. The account was opened because the Trump Org was looking to expand its business into Asia and opened an office in China. Nothing ever materialized, office has been inactive since 2015. Nothing to be disappointed about--it's normal business.
