A legal institute has asked the Council of Europe, an international human rights organisation, to react to "incitements of hate" in a controversial play which has premiered in Poland.

A top Polish official from the Catholic Church said the cross, a Christian symbol, is violated during performances, while insults directed at the late, Polish-born leader of the Church, Pope John Paul II, are "especially painful for Poles".

POLISH PROSECUTORS HAVE begun investigating a theatre play that drops hints about murdering a top politician and has a scene simulating oral sex on a statue of the late pope, Saint John Paul II.

Poland's powerful Roman Catholic church has slammed The Curse, a play directed by Croat Oliver Frljic, as being "blasphemous" for this and other sex scenes involving crosses.

Well obviously the producers got exactly what they wanted. A bit of publicity for the play and for themselves as individuals. No doubt if a court case follows, some degree of international fame will result for those involved, the writer, the producer, the director, the actress who performed the fellatio............they may even make some money from it, certainly the actress will with interviews etc 'So tell us Magda (or whatever her name is) why did you agree to take this controversial role?'
