When I was a kid, I really enjoyed fart jokes. Now, I'm quite a bit older and I still really enjoy fart jokes - perhaps even more than before. This tells me that certain things stick with us. Also, reminds me of a funny passage from Kurt Vonnegut's Galapagos.
