Let's talk about cars

It's only a quarter of an hour

And that can be crippling. Not to mention close by shops usually have higher prices.

Or try that trip with two small children as a single parent.

Not to mention close by shops usually have higher prices.

This is why it makes sense to build decent shops close to where people live rather than huge out of town superstores.

Or try that trip with two small children as a single parent.

Millions do every day.

And of ocurse proper public transport mitigates that. Some kids have never been on a bus or train.

Trying to be logical with jon...Good luck. Did you notice his hedge words..."decent", "proper", and "millions"...

A mother with two kids, 2 and 4, and six bags of food doesn't give a ff about "millions". Millions go to bed hungry so she and her kids should do, too?.

What kind of stupid argument is that...

Tough. Cities need to adapt to less car use.

You are free to adapt all you want. You can even hug trees...
A mother with two kids, 2 and 4, and six bags of food doesn't give a ff about "adapting". She wants safety and convenience.

Cities need to adapt

Not everybody lives in cities where it's actually usually much easier to live without car.

And UK is one of the worst countries in Europe to live without car. Awful public transport, low and wide housing

Not everybody lives in cities

This is true, however so many city-dwellers run one when they don't need to. In the countryside, it's often important to have one, however in a built-up area it shouldn't be, one reason why town planning is beginning to address this.

low and wide housing

The public transport is pretty good where I'm based when I'm there however a lot of that is due to a century of Labour councils keeping on toip of it. Nevertheless, low and wide housing began to proliferate in the late 70s and it's important to prevent more of this.

I mentioned earlier that we're looking for a new car. I'd rather not have one, since we've a supermarket near and the metro not too far away however it would be useful for certain long journeys. Better to go by train, however Poland has a poor train network.

How about car rentals joun ?
Rather than a monthly payment, high insurance costs, license plates fees, maintenance, home parking space, depreciation, ect.
Just rent a car when you want to go on a long journey.
Careful in doing this as some insurances only cover you within a certain zone from the home port.

Just rent a car when you want to go on a long journey.

If it's a long way from a railway line or an airport, that's what we've been doing.

certain zone

Not an issue in PL and there's trains almost everywhere un the UK.

I think that car looks great!

They dont make them like they used too. It would be great to have a time machine and get away from Leftards on skateboards.
Hahaha

Yes. You have to wear a helmet on a public road.

On private land, you can wear what you like.

This foto must be from the 1960s because gasoline still contains lead. Unhealthy and dangerous.

Yes. We're still paying the environmental cost from the period of lead petrol.

Who were absolutely right at the time.

Not that the Tories (who have been in power for far longer during your life and mine) told us not to...

Really?

Why?

Novichok
31 May 2023  #982

I noticed that this car can accelerate and go only as fast as the car in front of it but without the noise and other unpleasant things like jumping on every road imperfection. That's why nobody drives Corvettes. Joker was right.

this is how active cruise control works.

Novichok
9 Jun 2023  #984

I actually meant that on a typical road and with normal car density per mile, a car that can do zero to sixty in 3 seconds will never be able to do zero to sixty in 3 seconds.

When it finally can, there will a friendly officer to remind you what reckless driving is all about.

As far as active cruise...NEVER! I would never use it if I had it. Somebody jumps in front of you and your car will jam on the brakes only to be hit by the one behind you.

That reminds me...I hate self-driving cars and the idiots that use them pretending that driving is beneath them or to do office work.

I can spot a moron better than can a self-driving Tesla. Years of practice on the US roads and here...

Speaking of Tesla, I just read that Tesla has to lay off workers and reduce production at its largest European factory in Brandenburg, Germany. Could this be the beginning of the end. Not excluded, because no one wants to buy 5-10 year old electric cars that are flooding the market right now. And these cars cannot be normally scrapped or ... put out when they are on fire.

It's a pity because the factory is important in this poor region, I often pass by it.

Hey, remember when you wanted me to go to Villa Park, Illinois and look at that $2500 used minivan from Craigslist? I do.

It doesnt sound like something a big shot that owns a cattle ranch and learjet would waste their time on. It was a few years ago, you must have won the lottery since then. How come you never go anywhere? Youre always on PF.
