14 year-old car: diesel vs gasoline. Which one is better?

Dzien dobry!

[non important/blog part]
The long journey of obtaining a Polish driver's licence is coming to an end. Now, I am already looking at the next step, what would be buying a car.

important part

I intend to buy a car (1999/2000/2001/2002). At first I intended to buy a diesel car (mercedez/audi/rover/VW/BMW and no french or italian brand), however my doubt now is that I heard from my girlfriend's dad that an old diesel car is not reliable and usually present more problems that and old gasoline car.

can anybody gimme a light here?

when buying an old car (say, 14 year-old), should I give preference to a gasoline car over a diesel one?

Thanks in advance

Consider a younger car for a start. Why would you want to spend time and money on mechanics? LPG is a good option in PL. I use petrol/gasoline now but I've used LPG in the past. Cheap.

I am considering a car produced in 2000/2001 because I can pay up to 6000zl, which means not so many options for me.

But thank you for your input. I can think about the LPG as well.

No more inputs? :(
