Advice needed, Windows 10 update and I can't import photos from SDHC card

Doubt anyone can help, but when I put the SDHC card from my camera into the memory card slot on my laptop, nothing happens.
I uploaded some photos last week and everything was fine.
Windows 10 updated a few days ago, and now when I put the card in, there are no pop ups, no importing the usual pictures and videos message, nothing at all.

It's not the card, my camera's fairly new, and I checked by using the card from my old camera, and nothing happens with that either.

I am not computer savvy at all, but I have adjusted settings in Autoplay which has made no difference either.
I found a card reader in programs which I've updated but no joy.
My laptop just isn't recognising the card at all for some reason.
I googled the problem and one of the suggestions was to upload a new driver from the manufacturer but I checked and there isn't one.

Anyone else had a similar problem and if so, how did you solve it? Any advice would be welcome.

Maybe you could access this card manually via "My Computer" - click on every folder beside "C" to check if one belongs to your SDHC.

If nothing then check the same card on an other computer if available - just in case..

With the card in the slot, it shows up in 'G'.
I found the photos I took this morning in a folder under 'G' called DCIM. I had to click on folders within that to find them.

This is where photos taken on my mobile used to end up, but I can't understand why they are going in there and not into camera uploads.

And why does it not say 'importing pictures and videos'?
At least I know they are going somewhere, but where they are going isn't convenient and I have no idea how to move them from there to somewhere else!

Thanks Looker, at least I know where they are now!

When you take the card out of the slot, photos aren't there. There is no 'G' and no DCIM folder, so they are not actually stored on my laptop.

G is your card, recognised as a drive letter when you insert it. You probably need to copy and paste the photos into another folder on your laptop, where you can easily find them.

I had something similar when I upgraded last week and that worked. The drive wasn't easy to find - Windows 10 hides things

Sorted, so thanks very much!
I thought for one horrible moment I had to copy each JPEG file, which I tried with one of them and it didn't work, so I copied and pasted the folder within DCIM to pictures library and renamed it. It's actually simpler than what I was doing before, because everything changed when I originally installed Windows 10. I can do it in one step now instead of about three.

Until Looker mentioned it, it hadn't occurred to me to search for the card, because I just didn't realise that I could do that. I tried all other options I could think of first.

Windows 10 hides things

Don't I know it! Every time something upgrades, it seems to present more problems.
I've wasted an entire afternoon trying to sort out something I originally thought would be quite easy to rectify.

Don't quote me on this - but you should be able to right click on the "G" drive. select "Open Autoplay" and it will give you options with what you can do when you enter the card. Windows 10 might have changed things (I refuse to upgrade until it's been out for at least another few months) though.

you should be able to right click on the "G" drive.

There isn't a 'G' drive. As Vincent said, 'G' is the card which is recognised as a drive letter when inserted. When the card is removed, 'G' is no longer there. Right clicking on 'G' with the card in the slot brings up a load of options, none of which seem applicable, and open autoplay isn't one of them I'm afraid.

The first thing I did when nothing happened on inserting the card was to go to Autoplay and experiment with changing the settings, as this is what I had to do when I initially installed Windows 10, though on that occasion, the photos were actually imported, I just couldn't find where they had gone.

This time every Autoplay option I tried made no difference at all. It's as if my card isn't recognised at all.
Thanks for trying to help though!

Windows 10 :( Microsoft have been criticised for hiding a lot of things that were easily accessible before, and this is probably one of them.

That's weird... I'll experiment tomorrow on my wife's computer and see if there's a setting somewhere.

Thanks for trying to help though!

My pleasure :)

There doesn't seem to be a cast iron solution on the internet either, probably because Windows 10 is so new. People are having the same problem, and i tried lots of suggestions, but nothing worked.

Still, directly copying and pasting the folder actually works better than what I was doing before, so it's all good :-)

I'll experiment tomorrow on my wife's computer and see if there's a setting somewhere.

I'll be amazed if you find anything, but I don't have a very good relationship with my computer.......

It's not really that good to have autoplay by default. The autoplay/autoopen mechanism in usb drives/ssd cards was very often used for triggering malecious applications and installing them on victims pc just after the removable drive was connected to the said pc.

There doesn't seem to be a cast iron solution

1. Insert memory card into card reader
2. Open File Explorer
3. Right-click on the drive letter of your memory card
4. In the pop-up menu, click 'Open Autoplay'
5. Another pop-up window appears on the right of the screen
6. Click on the 'Import photos and videos' menu item

Either that, or simply open the DCIM folder in the File Explorer, select all files, and copy to your preferred folder.

4. In the pop-up menu, click 'Open Autoplay'

This was Delph's suggestion in post #8. Right clicking doesn't bring up that option I'm afraid, and I've done Autoplay to death experimenting, and nothing I selected worked, but thanks anyway!

simply open the DCIM folder in the File Explorer, select all files, and copy to your preferred folder.

I've done this now, which has actually been the easier option!

This was Delph's suggestion in post #8.

Oh sorry, I didn't see that.
