America is way too preoccupied with America rather than with serious, far-reaching achievement!!! Sweden, Germany, Russia, China, Poland, can all point to world-class accomplishments in social issues, technology, not only the humanities.
The US, roughly from 1880-1960 presided over some of the most significant infrastructural overhaul in human history. So what happened? We got lazy, grew smug, and worst of all, began to rest too quickly on our laurels.
Presently working on an article, "When the music died: The slow death of the English language", for publication. It'll surely cover many of the same issues we're looking at right here!
