I've been saying this all along about how ignorant and self absorbed and focused on their own race or neighborhood they are yet tou guys kept arguing:

Unlearning the myth of American innocence theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/08/unlearning-the-myth-of-american-innocence from flip.it/104T]

Saw this on reddit/Europe

The writer lives in Istanbul now. Her article (quite long) is to me just a 29 year old American woman realizing there are contrasting opinions....everywhere even within the USA.

k at who's president! Are you entirely surprised?

Trump's message was: Make America Great Again

An admittance of failure. Trump openly gaffed at the Iraq War (angering Neo-Cons) during the election. His involvement in overseas conflicts has thus far been transparent and subdued to recent Presidents

Exactly, and he sure hasn't succeeded:-)

We both know in politics this will ultimately be in the eye of the beholder. But being re-elected is usually the barometer for 1st term.

I just breezed through article recommended and "breezed" is the word which this piece deserves. Nothing new under the sun. Old message, same then as now; Americans (still) think they have it the best when they look at countries which have far less than we have, but NOT when they look at countries which are in fact more advanced!"

I definitely encounter the sarcastic but kinda true felt comments from time to time: how USA is the land of all other cultures [immigrants] so it's the best. Everything readily available. Essentially a superiority stance thruway of diversity. But also insinuating Los Angeles or New York are the pinnacle of culture and competition. Because ultimately USA doesn't have a central culture instead it is melted and shaped by what is usually commercially popular. But we know there is heavy propaganda and manipulation in advertising. Thus USA is for sale.

Proof of our inferior and unqualified liberal instructors in our colleges and universities teaching Political Correctness.

America is essentially a provincial society, let's face it!

Why Americans typically don't see the value of foreign languages, fall short in math/science skills cf. with The Pacific Rim countries especially, and make a Homer Simpson-like impression abroad stems almost entirely from our sense of being the center of the universe solely by virtue of our being Americans:-) Our motto sadly has morphed into "Sit on your ass! THIS is the best of all possible worlds!"

The Chinese character for China literally means "center". The difference though between Chinese vs. American arrogance is that historically China really has something, in fact, almost everything achieved, to be arrogant about.

Correction........Look who was president for the last eight years bastardizing the Constitution only to have the new president of 200 days be going behind
cleaning up the last presidents failures and messes.

What does any of this have to do with Poland ??????

Why don't Americans typically see the value of foreign languages, fall short in math/science skills cf

USA is pre-occupied with pop culture and athletics. As the culture victory in Civ 5 states: "Our people are now buying your blue jeans and listening to your pop music"

If hypothetically USA decided tomorrow to make a swift educational switch to biology, engineering and architecture - I don't think people would like the inconvenient truth about IQ levels pertaining to race/religion

America is way too preoccupied with America rather than with serious, far-reaching achievement!!! Sweden, Germany, Russia, China, Poland, can all point to world-class accomplishments in social issues, technology, not only the humanities.

The US, roughly from 1880-1960 presided over some of the most significant infrastructural overhaul in human history. We should be darned proud of the fact, for instance, that the US army trained more illiterates for service in WWII than any time since the world began, our universities such as the Ivy's are probably the most renowned on the planet.

So what happened? We got lazy, grew smug, and worst of all, began to rest too quickly on our laurels.

Presently working on an article, "When the music died: The slow death of the English language", for publication. It'll surely cover many of the same issues we're looking at right here!
