Found this interesting video. It seems to me that American society has a huge problem, and that with 28% of them completely sedentary, they've now passed the point of no return with the obesity crisis. The crisis is clearly related to the agenda by American businesses and politicians to push low-quality junk down the throats of Americans, with many Americans unable to access fresh fruit and vegetables.

I've read a lot about the kind of food served in schools, prisons, etc, and the country should be ashamed of itself. A yearly defence budget of over half a trillion dollars and yet the country can't afford to feed her own citizens properly. Disgraceful.

By the way, low-quality food being shoved down people's throat is not just an American thing. All around the world government's supposedly encourage people to live a healthy lifestyle, yet good quality healthy organic food is far more expensive than junk food.

The problem too delph a lot of ppl who receive food stamps still prefer to buy junk food instead of veggies fruits etc and food isn't very expensive in the us. Of course the organic healthy stuff is a lil more expensive but its def affordable. I spend roughly the same on food as a person would receive w food stamps.

The whole foods and other organic natural stores are in poorer urban areas but they often close down bc of lack of business.

Its the corporations too its a big part of the problem. Even a seemingly healthy drink like neastea ice tea has some 40 grams of sugar in a lil 20 24 oz bottle. It's actually becoming normlised. Like the Eighteenth Century, except that then it was the rich who were fat and the poor thin - now it's the other way round. There are very high poverty rates in the US, among the highest in the developed world - poverty/deprivation and healthy eating do not often go well together.

That is by "choice" jon because most living in poverty make more money on welfare (About $24 an hour) v.s. working a job that pays half that.

There are people in the U.S. who will only work 24 hours per week (just enough for cigarettes, unlimited I-phone, alcohol, recreational drugs) because if they work more then that they would not qualify for welfare benefits. They tell their employer this when he offers them more hours or full time work.

They would lose their free health care (Medicaid), free food, government housing, free education, free free free at the tax payer expense.
Trump is slowly kicking able bodied people off welfare by not rewarding them for refusing to work.

There are unlimited jobs out there that people refuse to take.
Employers are begging for workers and can't find anyone to fill positions.

The people that actually helped him into office are disillusioned, unemployed blue collar workers from the red states (and some swing states) who are unwilling to leave their home to find a job elsewhere - most of them living on government handouts and food stamps now. If Trumps cuts back on Medicaid and SNAP, he will hurt the very people that voted for him. Add the planned USDA cuts to the mix, and you'll know who pays the price: the (working) poor and small farmers. And for what? To finance ridiculous tax cuts for the top 1% and an increased military budget. As I said on various occasions already: Trump's voter base need to feel the pain first before they'll finally wake up and get rid of the GOP traitors.

Thwres a lot of urban poor that work low wage salaries i.e. McDonald's Wal-Mart etc as well who receive government aid. They pay taxes out of their checks too but they tend to get a larger refund than they paid in. Quite frankly I don't mind bc at least they're working and pay other taxes like sales. However I don't want to support someone who simply refuses to look for work and just lives off the government and even worse teaches their kids too so the same instead of wanting to offer a child a half decent future. I worked as a waiter for years through college jobs like that they're hard and the pay sucks. I enjoyed it though at the time bc I got to meet a lot of different ppl.

Coal country back country urban whatever. I was stacking tiles in a warehouse already at 15 for around $7 $8 an hour. If you're able bodied there's very few reasons why someone can't find work. Even people with down syndrome and other serious conditions manage to work in grocery stores. Whether they're male female red blue polish black whatever it makes no difference to me. Even when a polish person jokes how he's getting so much money from Britain's welfare or joke that it's their retirement plan I promptly put my hand to my forehead. I can totally understand if someone lost their job and they need some money because they're 1 or 2 paychecks away from homelessness - and that's a big issue. There are millions of families one pricey hospital visit away from sleeping in a tent - they're put of work even if for only a while, get sick, and are now in debt and can't pay their rent or mortgage on a property which probably is upside down and has hardly any equity. That's fine and totally understandable that someone would need money to support themselves and their family. Some people may work cash jobs or have a small business that crashed and hence would get little to no money from unemployment hence they'd need a welfare program for say 6 to 12 months which is a very reasonable amount of time for someone to find a new job. However doing it for years and even worse teaching you kids to do the same is just plain ridiculous. If anything a wise father or mother would explain the situation to a child once they're at an appropriate age to stress the importance of education, work ethic, entrepreneurship, etc.

I agree with you in general. The question though is whether or not you can survive on your net income. If you take away Medicaid, people won't have a chance even with two or more jobs. Are you aware of the fact that the US is pretty much the only developed country in the world where a large percentage of the workforce (> 5%) is forced to work more than two jobs to make ends meet? 38% are living from paycheck to paycheck.

Most people making 10 12 15 etc an hour cannot survive without some government assistance. However those people are at least working and contributing to the society. This isn't about people who work 1 2 3 jobs. I have nothing but respect for those people. Its the people who don't work and don't want to work yet receive more benefits and have a better standard of living than the lady waking up at 5 am to go to an Amazon warehouse than wash dishes at a bar at night. On top of it they complain and it's not democrats or republicans its both. Ill have to find that bls.gov chart that describes reasons people aged 16 to 65 gave for not participating in the labor force. Reasons like sickness, taking care of family, schooling, etc are totally reasonable but the largest by far was simply not looking for work for over 1 year. Also more and more people are not participating in the labor force year after year.

88 million of those not in labor force aged 16 to 65 do not want a job now - 6 million gave reasons such as wanting a job but currently not in labor force, sickness, disability, schooling etc for not being in labor force. Keep in mind that unemployment rate and labor force participation are two different things - a person not working for 6 months is considered unemployed but after that person hasn't been working at least 1 year they fall out of the unemployed category (that's why the 5% 6% unemployment figure is b.s. and its mostly a mix of cyclical, seasonal, etc u.e.) and into the not participating in labor force category.

What developed country do you know of where nearly a quarter of the entire population, a third of the adult popilation isn't working and doesn't feel like it? Our labor force participation is around 62 for adults. That means over a third of adults aren't in the labor force and haven't been for at least 1 year.

Hence if the politicians regardless of party were truthful they could say we have 38% of adults in the us are not working (most would call that unemployed but again government differentiates between unemployed and not in labor force) and not say some b.s like well I got/will get/other party should've got unemployment down to 4%...

So if were going to go by the bureau of labor stats, which id consider a reliable unbiased source as it merely represents statistics on the us population, perhaps the title should be something like "37% of American adults sat on their a$$ and didn't feel like working last year"
