The media is giving us the tip of the iceberg of what's going on in Ukraine - I know that for a fact from a personal contact. But that particular news about rapes has appeared in Irish television news earlier today. They printed in full the quote from a local government official in one of the Ukrainian towns where women have been raped. I'm afraid I can't find the reference now. Of course men will be raped too as will children but I can't imagine that you'd be very bothered about brutal rapes resulting in death, You don't give that impression anyway.

As it did in Crimea. Those daily executions, gulags, and that constant fear of being whisked away in the dead of night by the secret police and never to be seen again...I feel so sorry for those poor Crimeans. Now I know why Russia built the bridge...to transport Crimeans to Siberia, of course.

On the other hand - it looks like NATO has a different view on China than the US:

The mayors of European capitals have gathered in Warsaw to express their support for Ukraine and willingness to help refugees fleeing the Russian invasion. Organized by Warsaw mayor Rafal Trzaskowski and Anne Hidalgo the mayor of Paris, they confirmed their backing for EU measures, including humanitarian and military support to Kyiv. She said the Warsaw municipality would take the lead in coordinating help for refugees across their cities. They also linked up with the mayor of Lviv in western and Ms Hidalgo said she had been in contact in recent days with Kyiv mayor.

Latvia and Lithuania are renaming the streets where their Russian Embassies are located.

Russian Embassy in Latvia will find itself located in Independent Ukraine Street, while the Russian Embassy in Lithuania is now in Heroes of Ukraine Street. Nice one.
