Talking to retired colonel on my layover in Detroit as he heads to Ukraine as a volunteer. He said there will be another 20,000 US soldiers in Poland before the end of the month and that more have been getting shipped over almost daily.

He is infinitely embarassed - his "great" army was defeated in Ukraine, and he now fully realises it. He cannot, however, lose against Ukraine - it would be too embarassing, a disgrace forever and his demise. Losing against the USA and the entire NATO, on the other hand, is an entirely different matter altogether.

That's why I think he will attack a NATO country - most likely Poland - will, of course, be defeated and then be able to end this entire war with "face", selling a propaganda story how Russian army fought valiantly and lost narrowly against the entire might of NATO.
