In 1363 Lithuanians defeated Mongols and larger parts of modern Ukraine and Belarus got for hundreds of years under rule of Lithuania and later Poland and had been subjected to influence of the Western Catholic civilization. Western Ukraine was even under Austrian rule for more than a century.
