Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 7

Bobko

A massive missile and drone attack to take out enough of it to cause Vlad embarrassment and render it mute for military purposes

You really are talking about serious "BOOM" here. Not something Ukraine possesses.

A war crime is a war crime no matter who commits it.

Well... that's refreshing. Finally somebody with a sound moral/philosophical position.

@Bobko
I think if Ukraine really put a lot of effort into taking out the bridge they could. Combined materials could take out enough of it to do the actual physical damage needed and the psychological damage that is really needed to make change in Russia. As for war crimes, I am an equal opportunity administrator of justice. Anyone guilty should be hung with piano wire and if needed, while broadcast live on every TV station in their home country.

I'm of the same opinion, though I recognize the practical difficulties of implementing this.

I'll try to lay this out in my classic bullet list:

PROS:
1) It's good for discipline. It reminds the men that even though we are at war, this is not some free for all. There is accountability and responsibility. We may be good at what we do, but we will also do it well. If not, I will personally be punishing you.

2) If excesses are committed by the men, I think it is also appropriate - as an officer - to show them a taste of collective punishment. It depends on their age and experience, but as a commanding officer you should seek to make them feel collectively responsible for the offending member. It would be the same on a football or basketball team.

3) On the home front, it reinforces morale - because it shows we even punish our own. That is, we're definitely the good guys.

CONS:

1) Political turmoil. The guys that support us, are the same guys that hate Ukrainians a little bit more than we find acceptable for civilized folk. They increasingly demand more and more, and we try to accommodate as best we can. However, if we begin to jail our own men, all bets are off! The dogs will be let loose.

2) The average Ivan and Katerina will begin to think that this war may be a nasty and dirty affair that Russia should not be involved in.

In the end, it's not something everybody is much interested in.

@Bobko
Discipline is discipline. There is no other way to civilized behavior. You either have it or you dont. We are not talking about children here. Granted some room to wiggle for age and maturity is natural, but not much. My point of view is simple, and it really pertains to the US way of participating in this war and in Israel. We cannot as Americans point the finger a Russians without pointing the finger at Israel. Attacking civilians and their infrastucture is no different.

I am no supporter of Hamas. But Israel is just as much a terrorist country as Russia by their actions. The US take on it is nothing more than the double standards I have mentioned before. People need to be reminded this isnt some fvcking video game, and real children and women are being killed, not through mistakes, but on purpose.

Discipline is discipline

When both sides begin to give the conflict "apocalyptic" tones, it's natural for animal instincts to emerge. Maintaining discipline in the forces amidst these forces is something prudent generals have given much attention to historically, though often overruled by their country's leaders driven more by populist impulses.

It's difficult to control men within a small unit, let alone a country, when these animal instincts take over.

So discipline is important. Even in WW2 you can read dispatches where German generals wrote to Berlin that making men participate in the extermination of Jews was destructive to morale.

nothing more than the double standards I have mentioned before

You are definitely in a minority in the US with your views.

Just one more thing...You are idiots, I am a genius

As far as the war in Ukraine is concerned, you have got that the wrong way round.

Are you not aware that the RAF and USAF already have fighter jets based in Poland?

The allies will not allow Russia to win at any price.

Are you ready for WW3?

I object to the term "Western Warmongers", Russians started this war.

No step by step required.

Superior intelligence, logistics and firepower.

End of.

Are you ready for WW3?

Novichok
18 Oct 2023  #3461

Russians started this war.

Just like Israel in 1967 by attacking first. Smart Israel.

There are two ways to start a war: by firing the first shot and by making the other guy fire the first shot. In many home invasions, it's the homeowner who fires the first shot.

NATO was warned to stop expanding. The warmongers didn't pay any attention - or actually, they did - so now 500,000 Ukrainians are dead or without limbs.

If you want to blame Russia you must show that Russia would invade Ukraine even if Ukraine remained neutral anyway.

Miloslaw

If you want to blame Russia you must show that Russia would invade Ukraine even if Ukraine remained neutral anyway.

Why? Where is the logic in that?

Ukraine gave up their Russian nuclear weapons as part of their deal for independence.
How much more "Neutral" should they have been?

Novichok
18 Oct 2023  #3463

Ukraine was never a threat to Russia. Ukraine hosting NATO would be. This is what Russia will never allow - just as the US will never allow Mexico to host the Russian or Chinese army.

The rest is tactics. It's easier to prevent NATO in Ukraine than to remove it. Just as it was easier for the US tp prevent the Soviets with their nukes in Cuba than to remove them - both the Soviets and their nukes.

See how simple life can be? I like simple. Don't you?

RAF and USAF are not going to do one thiing unless Poland is attacked. Once again, people are not taking into account that the US people do not want any more of this. Ukraine is running out of time. This war will be over by January 2025, or it will come to a screaching hault at that time. It could end sooner if sleepy Joe gets the US involved in the $hit show of Gaza.

@Bobko
Life is not a popularity contest my friend. Not here to make friends or be liked. Just tying to make sure me and my family live as well as possible and stay alive as long as possible. Being reasonable and aware that there are are multiple sides to every situation has allowed me and my familly to live good lives in troubling times. If only other people could do the same, you and I could have a beer one day.

Have to disagree. Since the 9/11 commission those black ops bank accounts are much smaller, and after Jan 6, congress is watching everything.

@Polam
I also have to disagree, my friend. After 9/11 the CIA/Pentagon black ops accounts increased massively. A cursory glance and what happened in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Ukraine demonstrates that. The 9/11 commission, like the JFK Warren commission was useless and achieved nothing. Identified Saudi and Qatari involvement and no concrete action came from it. Totally ignored Israeli involvement. The democrat Jan 6 oversight people are the ones that are into full bore support of Ukraine, republican sceptics and us government procedures be dammed.

@amiga500
We can agree to disagree then. Neither of us will be alive when the truth comes out anyway. lol For most intents and purposes US black ops is not what it used to be. Sue there is spying and some killing, but not like in the last century. Too many cameras, cell phones all other tech to get away with alot of what should be done.

@cms neuf
I have to disagree as far as the US goes, people are tired of fighting and financing everyone elses wars. The presidential election will prove that out. Congress is already proving that out by blocking funds now. Ukraine has enough that was promised earlier still being delivered to get through to the new year, but after that things will become more difficult. A reall breakthrough is needed to generatre US public support.

amiga500
19 Oct 2023  #3471

US black ops is not what it used to be

Sure but there is also the accounting method, pentagon did it before with Ukraine. Oh we said we sent 100 billion but we revalued it at 70 billion so we can send 30 billion more. They'll just do that again. Also the IMF/World Bank/Ukraine Sponsor group money that is meant to be spent on pensions, gov wages and social services can just be reallocated to military spending.

As Biden prepares to send a package of 100 Billion in aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, the Republicans are already saying it will not be passed. But hey the US is just going to keep throwing money away right? Meanwhile the idiot Biden is refusing to make US border security a priority as the Republicans want in order to get the money passed through. So idiot Joe wants to give away hundreds of billions, while at the same time accepting millions of illegal aliens and having taxpayers fund all of the bull$hit while homeless people are crowding the streets in the US and drugs are killing children. And this is the leader of the free world? Keep waiting for more money Ukraine, its not coming at the expense of US borders.

mafketis
19 Oct 2023  #3474

@PolAmKrakow

What on earth makes you think Repubicans care about "border security"? Where will they find cheap housekeepers, nannys and gardeners with no rights?

I can guarantee any money not sent to Ukraine will not be used to secure the border or do anything else for everyday Americans. It will be used to prop up the rich and further immiserate the middle and lower classes - both parties are in agreement about that, no matter what they say.

PolAmKrakow
19 Oct 2023  #3475

@mafketis
Have you read what the republicans want in this 100 billion spending package? Have you heard what Biden is proposing for Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel? And how he tied it to more funding for sanctuary cities? The republicans have already said no before it even gets presented. Lets not forget the last spending package for Ukraine was regexcted over a month ago and a new one did not get presented. Thinking the republicans are not going to get their way on this is not backed up by any recent actions. Granted, in a non election cycle a few years ago I would have probably agreed with you, but times have changed.

If as predicted each aid package is going to have to be presented separately, Israel will get theirs first. Taiwan and Ukraine wont get anything more until border security is seriously addressed. Why Israel gets the aid when they are loaded to the max I dont know. Why Israel gets to bomb women and children and not get war crimes labled like Russia I dont know either. Its a F'ed up world.

Bobko
19 Oct 2023  #3476

Have you read what the republicans want in this 100 billion spending package?

From what I can read in the American press, this $100B package has a snowball's chance in hell of being passed.

Regardless of what people write here, $100B is an enormous amount of money even by American budgetary standards.

$100B is larger than the budget of every single government department excepting the Pentagon, and is about the same size as the annual budget of the City of New York - by far the largest municipal budget in the country.

I'll believe that when it happens....

I know political theater when I see it.

Border security also needs not real budget. You announce that no asylum applicaiton will be processed inside the US and anyone in the US for any reason without proper documentation gets deported or detained until a decision is made and then they're deported.

PolAmKrakow
19 Oct 2023  #3479

@mafketis
Your proposal is the exact same as what the Republicans are proposing. Funding for Ukraine until that is addressed is dead. Congress doesnt even have a speaker right now, so anything Biden puts forward is DOA.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, more deaths on both sides. A small advance over the river for Ukraine that is now said to be pushed back. The weather getting colder, and time growing shorter. Some people need to get smart and start talking.
