With regards to statements from several posters about the rampant corruption in Ukraine, Russia was ruled by the same people in the 1990s until Putin brought order. This does not mean that there are no oligarchs in Russia. The difference is that they no longer have political power, that is. Putin gave them the choice to stay out of politics and keep their yachts or go to prison. Those who wanted both yachts and politics were either wiped out or exiled. He established a system in which the state manages them, not the other way around. Putin put an end to the endless looting of Russia and the West cannot forgive him for that. This is not an idealization of Putin, but a clear fact. His historical merit is that he saved Russia which was on the verge of collapse when he succeeded Yeltsin.

The Russians have been deceived several times with the expansion of NATO to their borders, only that they were too weak to oppose it. But Russia is back on its feet and the times when the West could do whatever it wanted without opposition have come to an end. In 2007, in Munich, Putin clearly warned the West that Russia will no longer calmly observe NATO tightening the ring around it. Lavrov then made it clear to the American ambassador in 2008 that "nyet means nyet", that is, there will be nothing of the entry of Ukraine and Georgia into NATO. This is not the exclusive thinking of Putin, Lavrov and their inner circle. It is the backbone of Russian foreign policy. Due to historical experience (three invasions from which Russia has not yet recovered demographically), the Russians are obsessed with security guarantees and buffer zones. They are not interested in expansion, because they have too much territory that they barely control anyway. This (justified) paranoia is the reason why the Soviet Union maintained such a large military apparatus that burdened the Soviet economy until it collapsed. Russia has no natural protection like the Americans who are protected by two oceans. From the west all the way to Moscow are flat plains. And then they should dig their own graves by allowing an obviously hostile military alliance to reach them even in Ukraine?

This is how (super) powers act and think. All the talk about sovereignty and international law becomes a dead letter when they start to feel threatened. Small states that share a border with such powers must be guided by a wise policy in order to protect their interests and territorial integrity, i.e. they must not get involved in the provocations of a far more powerful neighbor. The Ukrainians decided on the opposite and now they are suffering for it. They allowed themselves to be useful idiots of the West, which knows that even in their wildest dreams Ukraine could never win this war. That is not the goal at all. The goal is not even the destruction of Russia, because everyone knows that is impossible. The goal is to cause as much damage as possible to the Russians, who need to weaken so much that they are no longer able to oppose the West, as, for example, in Syria in 2014/2015 when they intervened and saved Assad. It is also a big illusion and now we are a step closer towards mutual nuclear annihilation.

Ukraine has been reduced to a military frontier of the NATO alliance and has not even an S of sovereignty.

Ukrainians are fighting for Ukraine NOT to continue to be sovereign, for its masters to continue to be outside Ukraine, for it to be ruled by puppets and to be colonized ideologically, and then biologically.

Poland gave Ukraine pretty much all it's tanks (incl pt-91 twardy) whilst Germany was sending 5000 helmets. Poland demanded that the NATO upgraded Mig-29's should be sent to Ukraine, despite German protestations. We sent most of our Mig -29's to Ukraine.

The Polish/Czech/Slovakian leaders were the first to catch the train to Ukraine, under the threat of being bombed by ruskis, whilst the EU/Germany was bemused and saying this visit was not officially approved.
