Impossible to have fish and chips without vinegar. It suits onion rings too, however as Lenka says, you don't get them in chip shops. Often served with steaks or a mixed grill though

Of course it's possible. But I do tend to have it on mine most of the time.
When I do my own fish at home (I mean ready made bought frozen in store and heated at home) I do not put vinegar on it.

I buy those in Poland and slather vinegar all over it. If you're male and northern, you have to do it in a particular way, with the vinegar bottle completely upside down and a rather rude hand movement. Chips too, frozen ones or ones done in the oven or shallow fried are never the same.

I miss pickled onions, proper big ones. Though not pickled eggs which I've bought for Poles who are shocked at the concept but admit that they aren't bad. One every two or three years is enough for me though.

I never had vinegar on fries (chips) until I was at the shambles. It was actually quite good.

I asked the guy for ketchup and he gave me a funny look and replied. " Anything except vinegar is criminal". I thought it was funny.

I always squeeze lemons over fish. Im getting hungry now. I have a taste for Shrimp scampi with butter sauce.

Not on a fish in butter. I like the butter crispy and liquid ruins it.
I actually use frozen fish in butter for my Wiglia now.

I find it helps cut through the greasiness from the deep frying and from the batter. It has to be crispy though, and if you're doing it fresh, a bit of vinegar in the batter first (some people use beer) makes it crispier.

I use melted butter on Shrimp and Lemon on Fish:)

First Christmas without Mummy I tried to make carp. Quickly realised that without good knives I won't even get to the cooking part. Second year without Mummy I bought some differentfish fillet. At the same table I had British people eating fish and chips and thought: actually it might not be a bad idea to just that- British style fish and that's how it came to be .

Think of lots of plates of different things spread across a table.
