I know the west coast very well. I used to have an office in LA. People chose their professions and get their educations accordingly. Chosing to work in Calfornia is simply a bad career choice. Chosing to work for public schools in California is a worse career choice. These are the choices of those educators. You dont see the California professors at universities complaining though. They are raking it in as the for profit university system works well for them.
As for Detroit, making 45K as a 22 yr old fresh out of college, you can do just fine. Unless you have children, and other expenses that most young people dont have. Teacher pay is based on an annual "step system". They get a raise every year with a new "step". Those raises are generous, and planned spending around them is usually what happens. Then once tenured, teached have next to zero accountability for quality of education provided to students. This is where the school of choice argument begins for most people.
As for cash. Its not going away in the US. All of my companies are now based back in the US. Cash, will never be replaced by a central bank digital currency. The people wont allow it. Crypto is a beutiful tool for the future but a few years out.
