There's another language

Italian is a nice-sounding language but it also sounds a bit childish to me - like a lot of jibber-jabber, too fast and too loud. It lacks Slavic profundity.

r*SSia

Why do you hate Russia so much? They were British allies in both world wars, they haven't committed any large-scale atrocities against British people (as far as I know), they are far away from Britain, so where does all this hatred come from? Weird...

Why do you hate Russia so much?

To be trendy.

Russia haters can stand on their hating heads and scream all they want but it will not change the fact that it was the Red Army that liberated Poland. After they were done, they imposed their political system on Poland just as the US did on Germany.

When out of targets, Russia is an easy one. To dehumanize them, they are "Mongols", "barbarians", and "Orcs" - plus the implication that they are unique in their behavior.

My entire purpose in posting in this thread is to suggest that they are none of the above.
No, I am not for wars, deaths, destruction, and dead babies. I want my normal life back and a chance to visit that great country.

It doesn't have permission to reply to my posts.

This morning as I was taking a shower I noticed a pair of balls on me. That makes me a "he".
What is your pronoun? If you are not sure, a photo will do.

it was the Red Army that liberated Poland

After first invading and dividing it, KatyƄ and doing nothing during the Warsaw uprising, going on theft and rape rampages and imposing an unwanted economic and military alliance on the country for 40 years....

poland does not owe russia one whit of gratitude.

To be before a judge I have to be charged with a crime.

Trump being the exception, libs/democrats are dragging him through the mud without evidence of a crime for six years now.

Red Army that liberated Poland

But jon357 is not Polish, he's British. Why the hatred then? What's his beef with Russia?

It's as if Ireland invaded Iceland and I came to some forum and started calling them "ir*SSh", "potato picking Mongols" etc. Or if Salvador invaded Honduras, and I would be on some Spanish-language forum banging on about "SSalvador". WTF?

Novichok

Good point.
Next time I will stab them and check for pain. Sure beats being a non-binary, gender-confused, biologically useless freak.

He's lived in Poland a long time.... it's normal to pick up local attitudes then and russia does a lot of things that it's easy to hate.

I didn't hate russia before Feb 2022 (strongly disliked the government which I assumed wasn't that representative of the people).

After the invasion I've been doing catch up and everything about modern russia is just... vile and it's hard not to realize that it's not big bad putain dragging the people into a war they don't want --- he's giving them exactly what they want.

Meanwhile on russia the lastest party line is that Ukraine needs to not only disappear from the map but all memory of it has to be wiped out and that russia is and will always be an empire so always being at war somewhere is a normal thing.... not a syllable about NATO....

I don't give a fu*ck what Poland does or does not. I feel gratitude and that's all that matters. Yes, they were greeted with flowers as liberators - unlike the Americans in Iraq. They got IEDs and suicidal maniacs, instead. That gift of Western "democracy" failed to win their hearts and minds.

Nobody got shot. In fact, I never saw one Soviet soldier in my entire 24 years there so save your lies for a better occasion or for pawian and Ptak.

Do you watch "1420" channel on YT? Check it out. What you write may be true about some Russians (mostly the older generation) but there are many others who certainly don't want this war, and who don't support Putin. Besides, hatred is an infernal trap, very easy to fall into and it leads to, among other things, to the dehumanising of soldiers, most of whom are simply clueless conscripts being thrown into the meat grinder. I rarely agree with Novichok but he is spot on about this. This whole hatred thing makes no sense.

I can easily understand the disdain for Putin and his cleptocratic, criminal mafia, but the hatred of the entire country, people, culture and even language is a bit too much for me.

@GefreiterKania

It has perplexed the hell out of me too. Why do so many westerners hate Russia? I could understand some Eastern or Central Euro having some kind of disdain for them-a family story of how a Russian raped their grandma or killed their great-grandpa-but the vitriol coming from West Euros and Americans is weird. I don't recall this kind of hatred for Russians even during the cold war; distrust and fear, but not hatred.

I don't get the sudden love fest for Ukraine, either. It's gone from being the dysfunctional 5th cousin, three times removed that no one wanted anything to do with , except, maybe borrow it's tractor every now and again, to the family centerpiece-it's as if the Russian invasion was like hitting the mega-lottery. Now everyone fawns on it.

Just really odd.

Just really odd

Not that odd. Using your analogy- you don't let anyone mess with your family, even if you yourself are not too fond of them.

And while I don't share the attitude 'everything Russian is awful' I can understand.

to the dehumanising of soldiers, most of whom are simply clueless conscripts being thrown into the meat grinder.

Thank you, GF, for being that chill pill. I feel sorry for the Germans and the Soviets who died during WW2. What a colossal waste on both sides.

Just really odd.

Like I said...It's being trendy and edgy. Like being bi. That's it.

Nobody got shot.

it is estimated (by the Polish Institute of Rememberance) that about 50 thousand Poles lost their lives because of communist terror in the years 1944-1956 (most of these were Poles from the former Borderlands who were rounded up in the course of the "Tempest" operation by AK (Home Army) and sent to Gulags)

at least 3 thousand people were sentenced to death an executed by the "Polish People's Army" judiciary alone in the period

jon357

lived in Poland a long time

Probably longer than him in fact, depending on his age.

And we shouldn't assume what specific countries people here may have a deep and longstanding personal connection to...

I didn't hate russia

Same (and I don't hate r*SSia now; just the behaviour of their troops, their appalling regime and the complacency of their cowed citizens to the genocide being carried out in their name).

Novichok
28 Nov 2022  #1221

that about 50 thousand Poles lost their lives because of communist terror in the years 1944-195

...which can be explained a lot easier than rounding up 58,000 Americans to send them to their deaths in Vietnam for some to make money, get promotions, and write books.

As I said, I never saw one Soviet, my parents and I never belonged to PZPR, we lived in the center of Warsaw, were employed, never forced to participate in May 1 parades, got my first communion on schedule, nobody stopped me from going to church or visiting the US Embassy as often as I wanted. I was able to buy Herald Tribune and other American papers and books.

Maybe the state is much more dangerous and oppressive

...or maybe they support Putin and, if anything, they are mad that he wasn't tougher sooner.
Today, Soros could organize a demonstration against motherhood, the flag, and the US Constitution if he wanted.

gumishu

never forced to participate in May 1 parades

I saw Soviet soldiers (also their tanks, jets and helicopters in action) in Poland (there were Russian bases not far from where I live) - also we were made to take part in 1st May "processions" as school children (not that I understood anything about it or thought about evading the "processions")

you don't let anyone mess with your family,

It would be odd to get all worked up over a 5th cousin 3 times removed...hell, you probably never met them in your life.

It's as odd as when you hear 5th generation Americans who have never been outside America talk about their great-great-great grandpa's country of birth being their own homeland and culture, as if they themselves were born and raised in County Derry, Alsace, or Wroclaw. It's make-believe lunacy.

I was afraid it was just me. :)

I'm afraid we're the minority. :/

Novichok
28 Nov 2022  #1224

It's make-believe lunacy.

I stopped that nonsense at the first generation. "No, you are not Polish and, no, I am not taking you to Poland. You are 100% American. Any question?"

That was the end of this bs.

jon357
28 Nov 2022  #1225

It would be odd to get all worked up over a 5th cousin 3 times removed.

Less odd to get "all worked up" about a country that borders where you live being invaded by a particularly vicious autocracy whose political thinkers want to invade your country too.

Even for those who live across the continent (but still within driving distance), any resurgence of r*SSia has huge economic and security implications, none of them good.

If anyone is the asslicker it is you. Praising Putin who is nothing more than a criminal leading a criminal invasion. I dont GAF why you like Russians and no one else does. They enslaved Poles for decades and they have enslaved their own people for centuries. They are nothing more than a collective criminal enterprise.

But jon357 is not Polish, he's British. Why the hatred then?

I find his hatred 100% understandable. You would too if you read his posts more carefully - you would know then what is his personal connection to Ukraine.

Inferior, violent and worthless culture doesn't produce people like that.

Any and every culture produces people like that. I've encountered good people among Russians too - they were all anti-Putin pro-democratic liberals though. They are a small minority in their country. It looks like the rest of Russia is the way it is - RuSSia, unfortunately.
