I do this:

1. I evaluate if the incoming army intends to kill me or my family.
2. If the answer is Yes, I move them to a safer place.
3. If the answer is No, I move them to a safer place.
4. If the answer is Not sure, I move them to a safer place.

BTW, to the best of my knowledge, the Russian army never intended to kill, murder, or execute Ukrainians. Just the opposite. They went out of their way to minimize civilian casualties.

That's why civilian casualties are so low and why Western Russia haters don't even try to make it first-page news out of fear that the more diligent of us would compare them with the stats in Iraq.

That is also the reason why it takes longer than they expected. US-style shock and awe would not sell very well in Russia just as it would not be very popular if we did it in Canada or the UK.

I briefly studied journalism after working for a newspaper, a stint as editor of a school paper and some journalism classes. I know what journalism looks like and the skills reporters need to learn before they work for a newspaper and NYT writers don't seem to have that.

Some years ago a blogger (called half sigma or later lion of the blogospherre) made a habit of looking up the resumes of NYT writers and almost all had no journalism background but did have rich, connected parents...

Did the reporters working for Pravda have the skills or were reporting skills given by God only to the Western reporters?

The answer: All humans have the skills to investigate and write. Not all feel free to write what the ruling mob does not want to be published. That's it. No special skills are required to be a reporter. You can add "woke" to the ruling mob as both render the right to speak freely meaningless.

If that is not true, name those special skills reporters must have to be "reporters".

I think I read a different book by her, about her time working "in service" (for a variety of different clients). Very entertaining though at times changes in technology meant I wasn't entirely sure what she was talking about.... a boiler? in a house?....

in communist times pravda was not a newspaper in the western sense, it was more like a company newsletter (the company being the communist party) it's role was to talk up the company not report on reality outside the company

I don't know about between 1991 though it may have become something like a newspaper before the russian media fell under the standard of 'total information control' and so now if there's an entity called 'prawda' it has likely returned to that function (different company, now it's putain incorporated).


talk to as many sides as possible, learn what questions to ask and how to ask them, learn how to quote, don't make up stuff, learn how to find people, learn how to access and go through official documents, learn what needs to be attributed vs what doesn't, learn how to listen to a local government meeting for 90 minutes and know what happened and what the importance is basic stuff like that (and more, but... you won't pay attention so why bother?)
