I'm not sure that that's an accurate definition of "left". To me that represents a very American take. I think of "left" in a more traditional way. That is, I favor the interests of labor over the interests of capital, despite coming from a family with noble roots I think that nobility as an institution is an abomination, that wars do not serve the interests of populations but only a narrow segment, that government has a role to play in public welfare - not just private charities, and so on and so forth.

What you identify as "leftist" behavior is just as evident to me from the "right". Maybe your biases just blind you to it. Basically, what you are saying irritates you is people that are:

1) Exhibiting an unfounded confidence in the correctness of their views

2) Unwilling to acknowledge nuance, or any ignorance on their part

3) Are persistent in offering their "solutions" to all real and imagined issues facing society

4) Treat every debate as a zero sum game, not realizing how idiotic it makes them look.

5) Assume Satanic/Fascistic motives behind the actions of those that disagree with them.

All these things are not indicators of "left" or "right", but lack of education and social class.

I didn't mean that you were flirting with other people, it's just that in my case my significant other is very irritated by my striking up conversations with random people. Taxi drivers, waiters, people on the street, in the elevator. She thinks no one wants to talk to me and I'm forcing myself on people.
