Hey, Atch, I would like to get arrested in Ireland for hate speech. Excluding advocating to commit a felony, what can I say to be locked up?

Barney

@Novichok
Nothing, you can spout as much bollox as you like.

Novichok

Nothing, you can spout as much bollox as you like.

Why then do they have laws against hate speech if everybody can say what they want?
How about: Hitler was a great German leader who was falsely accused of the Holocaust that never happened. Is this a crime to say in Ireland?

Barney
30 Apr 2023  #2674

@Novichok
No, saying that in Ireland is not a crime.

You can say any aul bollox you want.

Novichok
30 Apr 2023  #2675

You can say any aul bollox you want.

You are lying.
Nobody writes laws against what does not exist - like "hate speech". Either "hate speech" exists or it does not. Which one is it?

Barney
30 Apr 2023  #2676

Don't be so emotional...

I live in Ireland don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Novichok
30 Apr 2023  #2677

Does Ireland have hate speech laws or not?

Barney
30 Apr 2023  #2678

Like all countries inciting people to commit a crime is unlawful. If I was kicked in the head by a horse I may say that all Americans deserve to rot in hell for their sins. Saying that in Ireland is not a crime. If I said that all Americans should be killed that is not automatically a crime a court would have to decide.

As I said don't be so emotional

Another one with lousy English comprehension...Hey, English genious, did you read this?

Excluding advocating to commit a felony, what can I say to be locked up?

Again, excluding advocating to commit a felony, what hateful thing can I say to be locked up?

Another one with lousy English comprehension...Hey, English genious, did you read this?

You might get locked up for misspelling genius.

Barney

@Novichok
I already told you..nothing you can spout any rubbish you want.

@Vincent
He he he :)

Yeah Rich, if you want to be taken seriously please post in proper English.

Only idiots like JR do.
That book is nothing but lies and fantasy..... Only an idiot would fall for it.
Jesus was real enough though.
Even Muslims and Jews accept his existence.
Take away all the hype and he as a great man.
But the Messiah?
Nah..

Novichok

I know how to spell "genius". I am one.

Novichok
1 May 2023  #2685

It takes a real moron to say that in Western Europe you can express any opinion you want.
As a test, post or say publicly "Hitler was a genius and NAZIs were wonderful people" and see what happens. A-holes...

Atch
1 May 2023  #2686

Does Ireland have hate speech laws or not?

No.

excluding advocating to commit a felony, what hateful thing can I say to be locked up?

As Barney said, nothing. There have never been any convictions for hate speech in Ireland.

Irish people on the whole, unlike Americans on the whole, are well informed, have plenty of common sense and a history of lively public debate.

Novichok
1 May 2023  #2687

What do you mean, including names??

Playing stupid...I am not surprised.
Let me demo to you what freedom of speech really is. With names. Here we go.

That moron, Biden, keeps the border open to let Latino scum in and I hate it. Kamala is just a useless pos that serves as a decoration because she is "black".

Show me one post of yours where you said what you dislike about a specific policy by a specific person in Ireland. That excludes Trump, the EU cowards' favorite target.

Got it or still lost? You, bootlicking Euros, make me sick.

Novichok
1 May 2023  #2688

No.

Publicly post:

"Hitler was a genius and NAZIs were wonderful people"

under your real name and tell us how the conversation with your police went.

Atch
1 May 2023  #2689

"Hitler was a genius and NAZIs were wonderful people"

The neo-Nazi thing is just not part of Irish culture so nobody is likely to say that. However a lot of people don't like 'travellers'. You won't know what those are but anyway ...... a few years ago some fella posted on his Facebook page that traveller babies should be used as shark bait, fed to the animals at the Zoo and should be used for medical/drugs testing. There was a bit of a hoo-ha about it but the Courts wouldn't look at it. He got off scot free basically.

conversation with your police

It's not up to the police. It's up to the Courts and Irish courts don't like having their time wasted with American style rubbish.

johnny reb

It's not up to the police. It's up to the Courts

Exactly, a police officer's job is to collect evidence for the Court to rule on.
(Unless you are Black and then the cops become judge, jury and executioner)
Question Atch, "why do you argue with someone else's husband all day when you have your own to keep in line ?"

Bald Blank Shooter

I thought he died from cirrhosis.

Novichok

The neo-Nazi thing is just not part of Irish culture so nobody is likely to say that

That's not the subject now. The question is if your freedom of speech laws ALLOW saying:

"Hitler was a genius and NAZIs were wonderful people"

...without risking criminal prosecution.

The answer is either yes or no.

Atch

Yes.

Novichok

From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_by_country

Ireland

The Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act 1989 made it an offence to make, distribute, or broadcast "threatening, abusive or insulting" words, images, or sounds with intent or likelihood to "stir up hatred", where "hatred" is "against a group of persons in the State or elsewhere on account of their race, colour, nationality, religion, ethnic or national origins, membership of the travelling community or sexual orientation".[39] The first conviction was in 2000, of a bus driver who told a Gambian passenger "You should go back to where you came from".[40]

Conclusion: You lie.

Atch
1 May 2023  #2694

The Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act 1989

That's not a hate speech law. There have been five convictions in over thirty years. Conclusion: you can pretty much say whatever you like in Ireland.

Btw the bus driver thing. I think it was more the fact that he was ranting and raving for a full forty five minutes on the bus and threatened to hit a female passenger with his cash dispenser that caused the conviction :)

Any kind of public outburst of abuse and threats of violence is likely to result in a court case - or is it different in America??

Barney
1 May 2023  #2695

the conviction

It was overturned on appeal but the wiki article was only partially quoted.

I think we both know that you can say whatever you want in Ireland provided you don't encourage someone to break the law. If that rogue horse appeared again and I suddenly wanted to start praising Hitler and his regime I could do so without fear of prosecution. Novi really feels the opposite of reality on this point which is quite an emotional debating style.

Novichok

If it's England - then stfu.

From the US and a source of embarrassment to me.

As far as I know the lease of the building expired but the Russian embassy continued to use it.

Why wasn't the lease renewed? Russia stopped paying?

Novichok
1 May 2023  #2700

It was overturned on appeal but the wiki article was only partially quoted.

Irrelevant.

The relevant part: a law that allows the Irish government to prosecute "You should go back to where you came from" is as 1984 as it gets. In the US, that stunt is not possible because we have the 1st Amendment and you, Euro bootlickers, don't. You are subjects and act like subjects - even if you don't have an actor playing the king.

provided you don't encourage someone to break the law.

Are you having problems with English? How does "You should go back to where you came from" or "abusive or insulting words" encourage someone to break any law?

Or are you just making up crap hoping that it will stick?

Hey, Atch, being against Mick Wallace was a neat trick. Next time try it on some idiot who can't see through it. In Ireland, being against Mick Wallace is like being against child abuse or murder. It's safe because your rotten government and very likely 80% of the Irish are against Mick Wallace BFD!
