America has much more history in the last 220 years than the British

Yeah, mainly wars!

British is not a race

Like American.

You Brits are already dealing with huge race issues in your country

But nothing anywhere near as bad as the US.

Milo, you mentioned I might not have the necessary information to assist us.(who is us? You represent the lonely nit). However, your interpretation of the results of WW2 is quite comical. Your recent statement about the British navy being the It is incorrect to claim that Britain primarily defeated Germany with minimal assistance from the USA during WWII. By the start of the war, aircraft carriers had gained dominance over battleships, making the British Navy a regional power. Japan and the US were the primary naval powers during the war, with Britain playing a secondary role in Europe. The English Channel, the Mediterranean, and part of the North Atlantic were mainly under British control, while the USA and Japan dominated the rest of the oceans. Without the support of the USA, the only alternative would have been global domination by Germany. Therefore, your reference to England ruling the seas centuries ago with the Royal Navy's supreme power is more accurate.

I guess it went over your head.
In case you haven't noticed, I was mocking Milo as he answers every post at the end of the night with a "I agree" "great post" "I concur" "Spot on" just to get his post count up so he looks like an old timer here instead of a relatively newbie.

While Novi makes his 40 plus posts a day, he at least has some meat to the subject not like Milo with a "I think so too".

He is the most truthful and trusted member of the PF.

Now Ptak, maybe the most trusted but certainly I have been know to sensationalize occasionally. Hoot !

but British troops still managed to help the Yanks in the Pacific a bit.

They should have concentrated on the North Atlantic where the supply ships with foreign aid from the Great U.S.A. were getting sunk by the German subs one after another.

The British Navy sure dropped the ball there as they were way over rated.

Japan was not a British problem,

Ukraine is not an American problem, it is a European problem.

I've been resisting drawing any parallels between the battles of WW2 and what is going on in Ukraine now, but sometimes the overlap is just insane. Leave alone the fact that some of the bloodiest battles of the Second World War happened over exactly the same terrain, and just consider how similarly the actors involved behaved.

I want to use the example of the Battle of Kursk. What had happened in the lead up to it, was that Russia had gone on an offensive which didn't go too well. Some territory was liberated from the Germans (forming the Kursk salient), but then the offensive ran out of steam and ground to a halt - leaving its flanks very much exposed. Remind anyone of anything? Yes... in a similar way Russia's 2023 offensive achieved few tangible results, while considerably exhausting our forces. Just as it was in 1943, our earlier limited successes have left our flanks exposed to Ukrainian counterattacks.

So let's look at how Hitler appraised the situation:

The Germans hoped to weaken the Soviet offensive potential for the summer of 1943 by cutting off and enveloping the forces that they anticipated would be in the Kursk salient. Hitler believed that a victory here would reassert German strength and improve his prestige with his allies, who he thought were considering withdrawing from the war.

Just like Hitler, Zelensky is pinning massive importance to this offensive - hoping it would be a turning point in the war, and a strong signal to his allies that support must be maintained.

How do they go about their preparations? Excerpt from the Wikipedia entry for "Battle of Kursk":

Despite reservations, Hitler remained committed to the offensive. He and the OKW, early in the preparatory phase, were hopeful that the offensive would revitalise German strategic fortunes in the east. As the challenges offered by Citadel increased, he focused more and more on the expected new weapons that he believed were the key to victory: principally the Panther tank, but also the Ferdinand tank destroyer and greater numbers of the Tiger heavy tank. He postponed the operation in order to await their arrival. Receiving reports of powerful Soviet concentrations behind the Kursk area, Hitler further delayed the offensive to allow for more equipment to reach the front.

So just like Zelensky, Hitler bet heavily on superior technology to turn around his fortunes. Just like for Zelensky, fears of Russian defenses caused Hitler to continually delay the mission until the "conditions were just right".

How did the Soviets use this two-month delay? Let's see:

The Central and Voronezh Fronts each constructed three main defensive belts in their sectors, with each subdivided into several zones of fortification. The Soviets employed the labour of over 300,000 civilians. Fortifying each belt was an interconnected web of minefields, barbed-wire fences, anti-tank ditches, deep entrenchments for infantry, anti-tank obstacles, dug-in armoured vehicles, and machine-gun bunkers. Behind the three main defensive belts were three more belts prepared as fallback positions; the first was not fully occupied or heavily fortified, and the last two, though sufficiently fortified, were unoccupied with the exception of a small area in the immediate environs of Kursk. The combined depth of the three main defensive zones was about 40 kilometres (25 mi).

The further it goes, the more interesting it gets. Highly suggest going to Wikipedia or picking up a book, and be amazed yourself at the overlap in topography, tactics, international situation... just everything. The only difference is that in WWII everything was on a much more epic scale.

Can we agree on one simple rule: You speak for you. I speak for me.
I am plenty capable and actually better than most here. You may even call me a genius.
As far as me being a genius...Only a total moron - I am referring to Mr. Lastmanstanding - would pay this much in deaths and destruction for a NATO membership.

To his credit, as the second guy who can walk on water, he was able to inflict a lot of pain on Russia without any casualties of his own. Seems he and Jesus as buddies...

Great post, Bobko

So many parallels... Here's Guderian asking Hitler what the hell he is thinking (people are asking Zelensky the same about Bakhmut):

Is it really necessary to attack Kursk, and indeed in the east this year at all? Do you think anyone even knows where Kursk is? The entire world doesn't care if we capture Kursk or not. What is the reason that is forcing us to attack this year on Kursk, or even more, on the Eastern Front?

Hitler replied, "I know. The thought of it turns my stomach." Guderian concluded, "In that case your reaction to the problem is the correct one. Leave it alone."

Really encourage you guys to read about this chapter of the war. If you thought the massive Soviet preparations and the German delays, cooked the whole battle before it even started - you'd be wrong. In most of the battles the Germans destroyed Russian tanks in a 6:1 ratio. In the first few days the Germans made such advances, that it would make the local NATO brigade wet. Cities and villages recaptured within hours, which took the Russians months to claim and hundreds of thousands of casualties. On the Southern face, Manstein actually broke through all three defensive barriers - again, in a matter of days. So if that war was Tweeted live like this one, then the Hitler groupies would have gotten at least a good week of uplifting news to perk each other up with.

The end result however was that this was the last offensive the Germans were ever able to mount. Instead of us spending months taking villages, which the Germans then recapture in hours, we started to push and didn't stop the push until it passed Berlin.
