BS. That`s what they claimed to avoid admitting with embarassment that there was no popular interest in taking part in their forum. Nothing was threatened with closure. A lot of controversial fora and sites run freely in Europe. E.g., neo Nazi Stormfront in Germany.

The same what happens to hundreds or thousands of fora each year - they are closed or given up due to lack of interest.

Memo to free speech Euros: A forum doesn't need to be banned to close. It will close "voluntarily" when posters are scared to post their real views.

I can't agree with you on some parts of your list.

1. I don't think we have freedom of speech any more. What about all the people that have been cancelled for speaking out about basic biology etc, and speaking out about certain religious groups.

5. Burglaries are still pretty high in most cities.

6. We have had high immigration for the last couple of years, not on the same scale as the USA because we are a small country, but if you compare oranges with oranges, it is too many and unsustainable. 750,00000 so call legals and 29,000 illegals this year alone.

8. The media has been captured for a few years now, and is totally biased, and they are all singing from the same hymn sheet.

The new EU regulations that were introduced some time ago where not about freedom of speech but about personal data protection (RODO in Poland). It would require implementing certain changes that would cost time and money and we came to the conclusion that at the end of the day it wasn't worth it. Of course, we could have ignored it, like a lot of boards do but it might potentially have exposed us to legal action and I wasn't willing to take that risk. A lot of people go around the new regulations by hosting their boards outside of EU but ATP was hosted in Poland and moving it seemed like a hassle at the time.

Besides, there was one more thing that unnerved me - we had a guy who posted some accusations against one of the then Polish vice-ministers. I did what would be done on PF - ignored the nonsense and left it where it was. It turned out, in a "nice" letter that I got from prokuratura, that the guy was using classified information in his posts. Of course, I deleted all the sh*t he posted but still I was asked to disclose any personal data that I had about the poster, which I didn't (because I had none, apart from some fake email address and his IP number). As I said, all this could have been avoided if I hosted the board on Cayman Islands or something like that but I just didn't think that any of it would happen to us.

It is also not true that ATP died because of the lack of interest - I already explained my point of view on Internet boards with the parish analogy. ATP had a bunch of old guard regulars and a new poster every now and then and we were quite happy with our little online bunch. If it wasn't for the new RODO regulations and the whole story with libelous and classified information we would still run the board.
