Back to the earlier quesiton Jon, did people in the 1800s giving birth out of wedlock did it at hoe or some traditional way no anasthetics? or go to hospitals? and in the hospitals
Anaesthetics came in mid-century. Most births were at home with a movement towards hospitals among people who could afford it since in the bad old days they weren't free.
Out of wedlock? Discreet, often at a relative's house in a different town if there was one. Sometimes a hasty wedding. There were also 'Scottish Marriages' (ones that may never have happened) which were a way of keeping up appearances.
Births were registered at first with the parish and later with the town. The parents would give their names and no need for checks. Many young girls who gave birth gave the child to their own parents who would be parents on the birth certificate.
and in the hospitals, they atuomatically would register the babies or mention it to some census
They would have kept some statistics, however register8mg births is up to the family. Hospitals had 'Almoners' who would help with people in hard situations. This job evolved into Social Work, Child Protection etc,
