Ouch!!! Dougpol 1, who's rattled your cage. I hope you don't consider me a racist, if you do I'll be very offended. Oh, by the way, how many ''refugees moving in with you'' ?

That isn't going to happen any time soon, and why talk about the western concept of democracy at the expense of traditional consensus rule?

That's a good question indeed. But I'm not sure war will be the answer. As I don't think islamists instead of Al-Asad would be a better choice for the Syrian people. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that our belligerent governments really have Syrians (democratic) desires at heart ;)

Merged: Refugees are being housed in former Nazi death camp Buchenwald.

The former barracks of the notorious Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany, where Nazi SS officers killed thousands of prisoners during the Second World War, is now the home of 21 male asylum seekers while they wait to be moved by the government.

Well what do you know. Woops Merkel got it wrong, that said, could it be a ploy by Germany for reasons known only to them. I cannot believe that Merkel with her experience and skills could make such a monumental blooper (although she obviously has) that said I'm sure these types of decisions are not made on a whim.

Obviously the problem is sheer volume of people, while stopping one person 10 more are entering via the back door.

The financial cost must be astronomical what with the shed loads of money dished out to Greece recently.

Maybe Merkel should join PF and get involved and listen to ordinary peoples views, debate, opinions and concerns, when finished just say goodnight and have a cold beer, simples.

Lets just work it out, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Germany, ???????? where next, that's more countries than ACDC did on their last European tour.

@Grzegorz: if true (it may be), it is most shocking ..... Obviously Germany cannot accommodate more than a few tens of thousands of migrants.

Obviously Germany cannot accommodate more than a few tens of thousands of migrants.

And it would have been nice if Angela had thought about that before opening her mouth.... But who expects a politician to think ahead when feeeeels are involved?

In other news the German Federal Labour Minister, Andrea Nahles, of the left-center SPD, says not even 10% of the new arrivals are capable of finding work, or enrolling in training* to German standards. In other words, less than 10% are eligible for direct job training.... So much for the economic arguments.

Are you sure? I've read that Berlin now seems to have gone back to the Dublin convention

Someone I know crossed the border with his family this morning from Austria to Germany after a long delay (from 17:00 yesterday till just after 03:00 today).

They entered him, his wife and daughter in "a computer", asked them about their destination (they stated Hamburg), and eventually let them carry on.

Some volunteers provided meals, sanitary supplies and clothing. They also saw nurses or paramedics on site.

Priority was given to families with women and children, and to elderly people. It is not clear who organized this system (border guards or some other agency). That means that men without families may have to wait at the border for an unknown length of time.

People that do not need registration at the border (like EU citizens and foreigners with a right for entry/residence) are being taken through a parallel queue and waved through after a quick document check.

Please keep in mind, this is the account of one individual. I have no doubt we'll hear conflicting stories from different sources as things progress.

@Makfetis: if only Angela were the only one!!!! 99.99% of our so intelligent politicians act without thinking.

What applies to Germany of course shall apply everywhere, most refugees won't find work and very soon shall become most frustrated. Probably best way to help refugees would be to follow H. Clinton's idea. Having migrants to Europe and to offer them nothing or close to nothing is irresponsible and cruel.

Angela

No-one suspects Angela of being a double agent, she simply had an attack of foot-in-mouth disease. But if someone (Al-Qaeda, Putin, whoever) wanted to destabilise Europe, would there have been any other quicker and more effective means? Merkel outrageous 800,000 refugees promise + today's tabloidised media = disaster!

quick document check

What happens to those wihtout documents - are they turned away or subjected to some other procedure? Reportedly some (quite a few?) lack proper documents.

refugees

Within the context of the refugee invasion/onslaught/crisis (call it what you will!), where will Europe be a year from now? Please make an educated guess.

I guess (and hope) that without much of the media fuss, "fascist" solutions like "guard the damn border, arrest/boot out people that cross it illegally" will be implemented and that should improve the situation... that's the short-term effect, I'm sure the insane EU-nuch degenerates shouting at democratically elected national officials and Germany's "foolishness" will have some other long-term effects...

All of a sudden I notice the mood has changed.

'' priority given to women with kids and old people'' hmmm, let me think, so how did anyone ever think this would work, How will the children ever be educated and I guess the old people are just coming here for some benefits and a pension, although their contribution to the system is zero.

Just look at the UK, my mother is a volunteer in a local primary school to help develop reading skills, in the school there are 27 different 1st, native languages spoken.

So one child from say Syria turns up with no English, think of the extra resources and costs for that one child, madness, yet Betty down the road has to sell her family home to pay for her old age care, her and her family have worked and paid their dues all their lives only to be treated so badly in those twilight years, I knew there was a reason I left the UK.

Why should "Betty down the road" be sitting in a million pound house which she passes on to her children once the state have paid her care home fees?

27 languages? so what?
You sound like the kind of "expat" who drives up and down the Costas searching for baked beans while you moan how the country 'has gone to the dogs'. When the truth is you couldnt make it there.

I f Kenny goes for them, I would say good on 'im.Got mine this morning :) Heinz ain't the same as they used to be, but it's still good grub, and definitely the job for refugees.

rozumiemnic, how wrong you are my friend, you sound very angry but I'll still call you friend because I'm a nice person.

I just wanted to give you a comparison of a nation with things coming Europe's way. It Is not a case of these people not ''wanting '' to work but a case of them not having the skills, language etc....... If you have children of school age come back to me when your child comes home and says, dad/mum a bunch of new children started today, Abdul, Fatima, 3 called Mohammad and some other names I can't pronounce. The Christmas nativity will never be the same.

Please don't be so naïve and think it won't happen, it's only a matter of time.

Why is it the British insist on calling themselves ''ex-pats'' I'm not, I'm an immigrant, the difference is I'm a legal immigrant'' and I choose to live in Poland through choice.

Dougpol1, 99% I eat wonderful and tasty Polish food, Heinz beans and HP sauce, priceless, hope you enjoyed your breakfast.

Stick to the topic

I was happy for my children to have friends called ABdul and Fatima. <shrugs>

I am not angry at all, but calling someone 'my friend' doesnt make you a nice person, it makes you a bit of a tit..:)

Then why did you hate mongers (who hate these refugees) not protest so vehemently when your respective governments were busy licking the US boot while it was going out destabilising the middle east and arming its various fragmented gangs to pounce on it and break the country apart so badly that there is no one to lead and there is nothing behind which its people could gather to save it.

While you hate mongers bark about those asylum seekers being in Turkey, Egypt or their surrounding places, you conveniently never talk about the food shortage, sanitation shortage, medical problems and "no work permit" situation for these refugees, and also never talk about the millions these nearby countries have accommodated already.

I wish one day those responsible for this mess would become refugees themselves, and them and their children be just as loathed and demeaned by millions of others as these refugees are being rebuked today.

Hopefully Justice will prevail.
