Chairman Kaczyński said..... / Opinions and ideas uttered by the leader of the PIS

Its nonsense, he is in opposition, and can do nothing, in what way is he harmful ?

Well...in a functioning democracy the opposition has a function too. To keep the ruling parties up on their toes...;)

If the powers don't watch is the roles of rulers and opposition can get exchanged very quickly (after the next voting)

What is the man actually doing in terms of legislating and changing the country? Nothing because he isn't in power.

are u saying that all opposition parties should just give up and go home. u know fine well that the opposition are there for balance, to argue on behalf of those who disagree. the opposition can still sway an argument in their favour, which may also be in the nations favour. without a viable opposition we live in a dictatorship.

the only problem with Kaczynski is can he lead an effective campaign. at the moment it seems not.

There are plenty other people putting forward views all the time, Wrocław. Views are like as*es, everyone has one. What is in the nation's favour is not always so clear cut. The point is, Tusk and Kommie are at the helm and they are the ones that can shape things. Little JK can bark all he wants as barking is all it is.

For opposition (important, I agree) to function properly it has to create the impression that it could reasonably govern. The problem with JK is that his current ..... behavior means T and K have too much leeway.

Even if they screw up (which seems likely), who's going to want Kaczynski in power the way he's been acting? Suprressing reasonable dissent in the party isn't helping, I think that PiS may soon devolve into a pocket party and the disaffected (including Migalski and Jakubiak?) will form something new.

I think actually it is a good thing the duck is still ranting about. Combined with the cross loonies, every day they stay together, it is free PR for normalcy.

I think PO is actually happy JK is giving "his best". For the local elections best PR possible...not to vote PIS.

I am just wondering if he already got a bank account these days. If yes, with SKOK for sure.

Whilst we wait for the Duck to come with more of his brilliant insights here are some old ones by Silvio Berlusconi:

At a rally during the 2006 election campaign:
"Read The Black Book of Communism and you will discover that in the China of Mao, they did not eat children, but had them boiled to fertilise the fields."

On left-wing voters at a conference of retailers during the 2006 campaign:
"I trust the intelligence of the Italian people too much to think that there are so many pricks around who would vote against their own best interests."

At the launch of the 2006 campaign:
"I am the Jesus Christ of politics. I am a patient victim, I put up with everyone, I sacrifice myself for everyone."

Promising to put family values at the centre of his campaign:
"I will try to meet your expectations, and I promise from now on, two-and-a-half months of absolute sexual abstinence, until [election day on] 9 April."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

To German MEP Martin Schulz, at start of Italy's EU presidency in July 2003:
"I know that in Italy there is a man producing a film on Nazi concentration camps - I shall put you forward for the role of Kapo (guard chosen from among the prisoners) - you would be perfect."

During the controversy raging over the above remark:

"I'll try to soften it and become boring, maybe even very boring, but I am not sure I will be able to do it."

To a German newspaper:

"In Italy I am almost seen as German for my workaholism. Also I am from Milan, the city where people work the hardest. Work, work, work - I am almost German."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

At the Brussels summit, at the end of Italy's EU presidency, in December 2003:
"Let's talk about football and women." (Turning to four-times-married German Chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder.) "Gerhard, why don't you start?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On Italian secretaries (comments made at the New York stock exchange):
"Italy is now a great country to invest in... today we have fewer communists and those who are still there deny having been one. Another reason to invest in Italy is that we have beautiful secretaries... superb girls."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On Mussolini:
"Mussolini never killed anyone. Mussolini used to send people on vacation in internal exile."
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

In the wake of 11 September:
"We must be aware of the superiority of our civilisation, a system that has guaranteed well-being, respect for human rights and - in contrast with Islamic countries - respect for religious and political rights, a system that has as its value understanding of diversity and tolerance...

"The West will continue to conquer peoples, even if it means a confrontation with another civilisation, Islam, firmly entrenched where it was 1,400 years ago."

His response to worldwide condemnation of the above speech:

"They have tried to hang me on an isolated word, taken out of context from my whole speech."

"I did not say anything against the Islamic civilisation... It's the work of some people in the Italian leftist press who wanted to tarnish my image and destroy my long-standing relations with Arabs and Muslims."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On Italian justice:
"Eighty-five per cent of the Italian press is left-wing and among the judges it is even worse... There is a cancer in Italy that we have to treat: the politicisation of the magistracy."

On judges pursuing former Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti on charges relating to the Mafia:

"Those judges are doubly mad! In the first place, because they are politically mad, and in the second place because they are mad anyway.

"If they do that job it is because they are anthropologically different from the rest of the human race."

On his trial, now suspended, in which he denies charges of bribing judges to prevent the sale of a state-owned food company to a rival:

"I believed and still believe that citizen Berlusconi should be praised for having prevented the state's wealth from being looted... I was expecting a Gold Medal for Civil Worthiness for ensuring the state earned 2,000bn [lire]."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On himself:
"The best political leader in Europe and in the world."

"There is no-one on the world stage who can compete with me."

"Out of love for Italy, I felt I had to save it from the left."

"The right man in the right job."

"I don't need to go into office for the power. I have houses all over the world, stupendous boats... beautiful airplanes, a beautiful wife, a beautiful family... I am making a sacrifice."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

A joke about Aids told by Mr Berlusconi:
"An Aids patient asks his doctor whether the sand treatment prescribed him will do any good. 'No', the doctor replies, 'but you will get accustomed to living under the earth'."

His response to critics who said the joke was offensive:

"They have lost their minds; they really have come to the end of the line, indeed they have gone beyond it. I would advise them, too, to undergo sand treatment..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On his alleged conflict of interest as prime minister and one of Italy's biggest tycoons, with major media holdings:
"If I, taking care of everyone's interests, also take care of my own, you can't talk about a conflict of interest."

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On a proposal to base an EU food standards agency in Finland, rather than the Italian city of Parma:
"Parma is synonymous with good cuisine. The Finns don't even know what prosciutto is. I cannot accept this."
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

On history:
"The founders of Rome were Romulus and Remulus ..."

He, you should watch "Bye, bye Berlusconi" from 2006, a hilarious Italian comedy about a guy trying to make a movie about Berlusconi. There is lot of original footage from his official speeches in it, absolutely mind-boggling. Btw Jerzy Stuhr is in that movie too.

I wonder if they ever gonna make a movie about the Duck (Polish comedy that is).

Berlusconi has been in power for a dozen of years or so - one of the longest in Europe, next is Putin in Russia.

Italy is a democracy.

What does it say about Italians?

Either they are complete fools....

...or Berlusconi, despite his blunders, is a good manager.

Or still something else?

Not necessarily. Bye bye Berlusconi won an award at Berlin Film festival, personally I saw it at Bangkok Film Festival few years back. Lot of people around the world have seen that movie, granted it is not a Hollywood blockbuster, but it's managed to convey its message to the world which is: Berlusconi is an idiot and most importantly the Italians (at least the thinking part of society) think that too.

So a well received Polish comedy could serve the same purpose as the guy and his late twin-brother proved a huge embarrassment to Poland leading a lot of people in Europe to believe that most Poles are not quite right in their head. But then again he's not in power any more so maybe it is not such an issue any more, but still the sheer entertainment value of such a movie is hard to pass, all the jokes are already here.

Ach, nobody tops George W Bush for out-and-out idiocy. That man could win Oscars on his own for purely clever idiocy, an oxyMORON he was.

At least he knew he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box. JK actually thinks he is sth special.

Head of Law and Justice, Jaroslaw Kaczynski has said that he is to symbolically boycott the PM and president by not shaking their hands.
In an interview with the Polish edition of Newsweek, Kaczynski blames the leaders of the Civic Platform party over the responsibility of the Smolensk air crash of 10 April, as well as the removal of the Smolensk cross which was originally placed outside the Presidential Palace by scouts following the crash.

Law and Justice chief Jaroslaw Kaczynski says that the Church “is being punished by the [political] establishment”, adding that many clerics supported Law and Justice in the presidential elections.

“The establishment wants to tell the Church that they have no right to support its political adversaries,” Kaczynski tells Newsweek, adding that “the whole affair [over the Smolensk cross] was a well planned act of provocation.”

Jaroslaw Kaczynski also told the weekly that he believes Law and Justice have a good chance of doing well in the general election billed for 2011, stating that we would once again like to become Prime Minister. He also hinted that Law and Justice stalwart Zbigniew Ziobro may don the party leadership in future elections.

In an unprecedented move for a leader of an opposition party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski has written to 738 members of the European parliament (MEPs) and dozens of ambassadors worldwide, urging them to help block an expansion of Russia’s influence abroad.

The letter by the leader of the Law and Justice party says the European Union and the United States should oppose Russia extending its economic and political zone of influence.

Washington and Russia should also give greater assistance to countries that want to free themselves from the Russian sphere of influence.
In his letter Jaroslaw Kaczynski analyses Poland’s foreign policy in recent years, with particular emphasis on what his late twin brother, President Lech Kaczynski and the Law and Justice led coalition government which he led from 2005 -7.

The letter was sent to ambassadors of all EU member states, plus the United States, Canada, Israel, Switzerland, Norway, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.

Kaczynski has fiercely criticised both President Bronislaw Komorowski and the ruling Civic Platform party led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk for what he sees as amounting to appeasement of Russia in Poland’s foreign policy.

Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski (pictured right) wondered yesterday if leader of the Law and Justice party Jarosław Kaczyński “was on drugs” after he sent a letter to ambassadors warning of “Russian imperialism”.

Sikorski’s comment is presumably linked to Kaczynski admission that he was taking tranquilisers during the recent presidential election campaign following the death of his twin brother, Lech.

Meanwhile, head of Law and Justice, Jaroslaw Kaczynski has given an all-encompassing interview with the catholic ultra-conservative Radio Maryja in which he promotes the idea of commemorating the Smolensk catastrophe across Poland.

“I believe that it will happen,” Jaroslaw Kaczynski said in the interview, comparing future memorials of the Smolensk crash to those that were gradually erected after the death of Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko, known as the Solidarity priest and murdered by communist police in the 1980s.

“We should commemorate [the Smolensk tragedy] not just in Warsaw but throughout the whole country,” Kaczynski underlined.

pawian I wonder if you ever read Rafał Ziemkiewicz - I do recommend you read it on a regular basis - does it matter if Kaczyński freaked out when you don't vote for the man? - btw it is not Kaczyński who is an imminent threat to Poland - it is the current government with all its lies (especially those concerning Poland's finances's deficit)

it is the current government with all its lies (especially those concerning Poland's finances's deficit)

What lies? They've publicly admitted that the finances aren't great and that they need to raise money now. Given that PiS were screaming all along that the country should spend, spend, spend - who is the "threat" here? In fact, you should look at just what they're doing at the minute to raise money - for instance, taking the profitable State Forestry Service onto the public books.

It's pretty obvious that after the next election, there will be massive cuts in Poland to restore financial stability. No bad thing, especially when you look at some of the subsidies handed out at the moment.

President is enemy of church, says Kaczynski
06.10.2010 13:51

Opposition leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski has accused President Bronislaw Komorowski of being an enemy of the Roman Catholic church in Poland, in a row over alleged church property restitution bribes and malpractice.

“Why didn’t Bronislaw Komorowski reveal that he is the Church’s enemy during the presidential campaign?,” said Kaczynski, blaming the ruling Civic Platform, which Komorowski is associated with, for what he sees as the hounding the Catholic Church in Poland.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski has accused Bronislaw Komorowski of launching an anti-Church campaign, which he says started with the president ordering the removal of the Smolensk cross from outside of the Presidential Palace to a nearby church.
