An update on the amount raised in Ireland last night from a television appeal, 3 million euros. The Irish Red Cross has so far received donations of nearly 9 million euros - not bad going for a country with less than 5 million people.

Meanwhile lorry loads of donations are on their way to the Polish border driven by volunteers. Salt of the earth, what we in Ireland call 'mighty men', Bus Éireann drivers, Derry O'Shea and John Barry from Cork have been collecting and delivering shipments of aid to orphanages in Belarus since 2015. Each year they fundraise locally and drive trucks with donated goods over 5,000 kilometres from Cork to Belarus and back which are provided to local orphanages, schools and social centres for children impacted by the Chernobyl nuclear incident in 1986. Now they're on their way to the Polish border - that it should come to this, dear God

A Ukrainian official on Friday released a list of Russian war prisoners, urging Russian mothers to make a trip to Kyiv and pick up their captured sons.

Mothers who make their way to Ukraine to pick up their sons will be escorted to Kyiv, "where your son will be handed over to you," his post reads.

"We, Ukrainians, unlike Putin's fascists, do not fight mothers and their captive children," Gerashchenko wrote. "We are waiting for you in Kiev!"
