Well....at least the EU seems to grow some balls!

Von der Leyen specifies possible EU sanctions

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen threatens Russia in the event of an invasion of Ukraine: Important sectors of the country could be subject to conditions.

spiegel.de/ausland/ukrainekonflikt-von-der-leyen-konkretisiert-moegliche-eu-sanktionen-bei-russischem-angriff-a-9067b226-d183-418c-8e3a-b8ba903a708f

In the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine, the EU would impose sanctions on Russia's financial and energy sectors. "The export of high-tech products would also be affected," said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday after a phone call with a number of Western heads of state and government on the Ukraine conflict. The punitive measures would be "massive", she also emphasized.

In addition to von der Leyen, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, Great Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other heads of state and government from Western countries also took part in the short-term telephone switchboard....

The financial sanctions will hopefully still include SWIFT.....what are they waiting for? Till russian troops occupy Kiev???

SWIFT off Russia sanctions list, state banks likely target -U.S., EU officials

reuters.com/world/europe/swift-off-russia-sanctions-list-state-banks-likely-target-us-eu-officials-2022-02-11/

WASHINGTON, Feb 11 (Reuters) - U.S. and European officials are finalizing an extensive package of sanctions if Russia invades Ukraine that targets major Russian banks, but does not include banning Russia from the SWIFT financial system, according to U.S. and European officials.

The sanctions on the table also include export controls on components produced by Russia for the tech and weapons sectors, and sanctions against specific Russian oligarchs, according to three sources familiar with the discussions.

One U.S. official said the Russian banks targeted with sanctions could include state-backed VTB and Sberbank, the largest financial institutions in Russia....

U.S. Fighter jets land in Poland to beef up Poland's border this week.
Separately on Thursday, Poland's Ministry of National Defense tweeted that another round of American soldiers and British soldiers arrived in Warsaw and Rzeszów.

msn.com/en-us/news/world/us-fighter-jets-land-in-poland/ar-AATHH34?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531

And the U.S. Defense Secretary today ordered the deployment of 3,000 additional troops to Poland as the crisis over Russia's potential invasion of Ukraine deepened.

Now the way I see it :
This isn't in support of Ukraine; this is for support of Poland when Iran (being an allie of Russia) starts taking out U.S. military instillations in Poland after the U.S. bombs all the nuclear complexes in Iran before they develop a nuclear warhead to put on their latest missile that is capable of hitting any target in Europe.

Their new missile that China gave them the components to build.
Before this is all done and over with, everyone will be invited to the party.
The question is............"who will be the first one to push a red button ?"

Brilliant! Perhaps the EU elites have finally noticed that this is their chance to build stronger common unity and identity. There is nothing like external enemy to increase internal coherence :) However, it would also be nice if Germany stopped playing in Putin's team (ban on flights carrying weapons for Ukraine over German territory, forbidding Estonia to send artillery units to Ukraine, continuing with this NS2 nonsense, etc. etc.). The Union has to be internally coherent - we can't have a large and important union country like Germany supporting Russia in their invasion.

3000 more US troops being deployed to Poland on top of the 1700 that just landed. And these are not your regular Army, 82nd airborne are no joke and they are combat ready.

Not banning Russia from SWIFT is a sign that some want a war. Good for business. Keep that money flowing, start ramping up military production, justify more military spending, get the economy moving again.

some want a war

Martial law in the US would be a gift to the authorities when the monetarists at the Fed start to collapse the system (ask about the reasons for the recent conflict between the heads of the IMF and the Fed if you are interested, it has something to do with that). At the same time, the authorities can also put a hard pressure on those who resent the decline in living standards, if even by putting the economy on a war footing they are unable to contain the avalanche.

Everyone is doing what they have been taught - the Fed's top brass have been taught that you have to raise the discount rate to bring down inflation. Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen is trained in gynecology, and is trying to turn the EU into a ****, so as to at least understand what can be done about it. ;)

Agree! *nods*

Nothing brings squabbling reluctant allies closer than a common strong and dangerous enemy!!!

(Since the downfall of the East and the victory in the Cold War 1989 that was some kind of missing from the West)

However, it would also be nice if Germany stopped playing in Putin's team

We will have to....till now Germany liked to play all sides but with a belligerent threatening Putin that will be no longer an option!

@Velund
You are beyond ignorant. Martial Law is not even possible under the US Constitution. There is no Presidential authority to even attempt it. Trump was even told this by crazy Rudi.

The only weak link in the EU is Germany and they are getting a little stronger now. Russia could not control all the "states" in the Russian Federation in the 90's and they sure wont be able to reel things in now. Whether a conflict takes place or not my money is on Ukraine fast tracking to NATO in the end, and then what? Russia will want Turkey? Get Romania back?

No one is dumb enough to use nukes. Not going to happen. Let a few thousand die and then see how the citizens react.

Friends from Kiev arriving in Krakow on Monday and they have said more are coming for an extended period of time.

Exactly. For the first time in recent years I see hope for the EU. Russia's actions made many people in Poland realise the value of stronger Union. The support for PiS is waning and when opposition under Tusk gets back to power in Poland, Orban will realise that his antics have to end, so the EU will be much more internally coherent again. We have immense economic, technological and demographic potential, but to take full advantage of it we need larger degree of unification.

All in all, unknowingly, Mr Putin may just be rendering the EU the greatest favour ever :)

Friends from Kiev arriving in Krakow on Monday and they have said more are coming for an extended period of time.

Poland should be able to shelter about a million refugees from Ukraine if need be, but there can be more if full scale war breaks out. We will have to show solidarity and compassion, and dig deeper in our pockets but it's the only right thing to do.

Oh yeah! *grins*

First the awareness of the threat of unchecked immigrants and the need for firm borders for our common territory, now a common foreign enemy....that all drives home the advantages of the EU!

Martial law is impossible even under the U.S. Constitution.

The Democrats almost succeeded in passing a law that could make further elections de facto useless and will ensure their dominance in the future. It was prevented by a generously sponsored miracle of the Lord. ;) If the choice is going to be the deepest crisis of the political and economic system with the removal from power and related revenues forever vs. some quickly invented functional equivalent of martial law that "fits" into the existing legal system - try to imagine what all those freaks would choose. ;) I doubt there will be sponsors to prevent this by similar miracle. ;)

PolAmKrakow

@Velund
Again you show your ignorance. No law was even debated that was even close to what you suggest. The proposal for discussion was to eliminate any question on whether any VP could send electoral votes back. How much is the Kremlin paying you? It can not be a lot or they could actually find someone intelligent enough to twist the truth. All rubles being spent on body bags I guess. Strategic investment.

@GefreiterKania
Wealthy Ukraine people already on the way. They will be first, the poor will come if the war actually starts.

Federal government: Germans should leave Ukraine

berliner-zeitung.de/news/bundesregierung-deutsche-sollen-ukraine-verlassen-li.211465

Against the background of the escalating conflict with Russia, Germans are supposed to leave Ukraine. "If you are currently in Ukraine, check whether your presence is mandatory. If not, leave at short notice, "said the Federal Foreign Office on Saturday. The embassy in Kiev will remain open for the time being. The German consulate general in Dnipro is to be relocated to Lviv (Lemberg).

A visit by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to Ukraine is planned for Monday. On Tuesday, Scholz wants to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time as Chancellor in Moscow. So far, there has been a travel warning for Ukraine due to the corona pandemic and a partial travel warning for the Donetsk and Luhansk districts controlled by the separatists and the areas along the contact line.....

As I thought Putin makes it impossible for Germany to stay sitting on the fence.....that might very well also end any future business with Nordstream 2!

...After warnings from the US government of a possible impending Russian attack, the US, Great Britain, Denmark, Latvia and Estonia, among others, had previously asked their citizens to leave the country....

Biden, if he had any brains, would tell Euros fu, your problem, so deal with it.

I have to agree with you on that one.
Instead biden is trying his damndest to brainwash the American people again to cover up his and his sons money laundering in Ukraine.
The propaganda the American people are being fed about Russia creating a false flag to attack is nothing short of criminal to kill a lot of innocent people.

In fact there have been reports here in the U.S. that Russia has already attacked Ukraine !
The government said it's true, what else do you need ? And when have they ever lied to start wars before...
Did you see the press briefing on Russia's False Flag that blew up in the State Departments face by news reporter Matt Lee last week ?

Of course not, it got buried the same day.
TO SUMMARIZE:
State Departments Ned Price: We have a report here that pansexual KGB Russian unicorns gather in the meadow at dusk to fellate each other and make plans to frame Ukraine for acts of war.

Reporter Matt Lee: How do you know that?
State Department Ned: It's in a report.
Reporter Matt Lee: Where's the report?
State Department Ned: The transcript from me saying it here is the report.
Reporter Matt Lee: But where's the evidence?
State Department Ned: I just gave you the evidence. Do you want the transcript from this briefing?
Reporter Matt Lee: That's not evidence. You're just making mouth noises into a microphone. You haven't shared any facts here whatsoever.
State Department Ned: You're a communist infiltrator. Lady Liberty weeps that you are desecrating this sacred space in the State Department studio with Russian disinformation.

Lee, apparently genuinely confused at this point, replies that there is no report.
It's just Ned Price reading unsubstantiated intelligence claims from a script on a stage, made up and wearing a suit and tie with a well-placed American flag behind him for added authority.

Need more proof ? Price offers to "print a transcript" of his own comments from two minutes earlier...
Lee again asks for proof of the Russian false flag scheme.
Price accuses Lee of reflecting Russian disinformation and moves on to the next question.
Crap like this is insult to American's intelligence.

Don`t be ignorant again. The US is a global superpower and as such has to compete with other super- or wanna-be superpowers. If Americans relinquish Europe, Russia wins and the US loses. Simple.

Breaking news. Voivodship (province) governors have issued a request to city mayors to supply the list of facilities which might accommodate potential war refugees from Ukraine.

From AP:

Russia and Ukraine have been locked in a bitter conflict since 2014, when Ukraine's Kremlin-friendly leader was driven from office by a popular uprising. Moscow responded by annexing the Crimean Peninsula and then backing a separatist insurgency in eastern Ukraine, where fighting has killed over 14,000 people.

Was "driven"? Any chance that some slimy foreigners with US passports were involved in driving him from office?

And that "popular uprising"...Hmm..."popular" but Crimea was "annexed", right? That "annexation" with 90% approval somehow was not popular enough.

Those Russians must be shaking in their boots...From dailymail.com:

PETER HITCHENS: When Nato has its own Office of the Gender Advisor, you know wokery has won

Did you know that Nato now has an 'Office of the Gender Advisor', just as MI6 flies the Rainbow Flag (above) of the LGBTQ movement?

Nato is, in fact, the army of the sexual revolution, as it showed in its failed mission in Afghanistan.

I wonder if their ARs are loaded or just for show? I am talking about the brave man and women the US has sent to Poland.

The 241 Marines who died in Beirut in 1983 were not armed. They were there to inspire and bring the message of peace. That's how criminally stupid the US swamp is.

Come on man. Either pro US or pro Russia. Cant be both. Those poor Russians "trapped" in Ukraine should just go to Russia. Simple solution. If you prefer another country move there.

@johnny reb
What's funny is all the ripped up documents that have physically been turned over to congress. Shouldn't everyone be screaming "lock him up" like they were screaming for Hilary? Lock them both up is my suggestion.

Airlines now starting to stop flying to Ukraine. KLM halted flights and others are following. Yep, airspace over Kiev could be a little crowded.
