What possible useful outcome could come from a close friend of Putin and Lavrov? He has more important things to do than to soothe nervous pseudo-allies...

Steinmeier was naive towards Russia but he still tried to help Ukraine both as FM and later president at a time when countries like the UK showed no interest in doing so.

Putin invading Ukraine is a go at rebuilding the Sovietunion....that is not about national differences!

And before that it brought us decades of prosperity and peace. Besides, this is not about talking with Russia, but with a country that wants to join the EU.

Besides talking to each other, we should be also listening to each other. Germany wasn't listening to Poland and other countries about Russia for a very long time.
