I think he is scared because he had no alternative exit strategy. He is not a military person, he is s street KGB wannabe thug. He is not highly intelligent, and clearly not an analytical thinker. He has bet his future and the future of Russia on an army of mongrels who have nothing to eat and no fuel. This is not the sign of a strong leader, it is the sign of a dog that has been cornered and he does not know how to fight out of the corner. There is no way out for him or for Russia. He dies and/or Russia dies with him. The only question remaining is if he is crazy enough to go nuke someone and trigger MAD. His generals need to take him out quickly.

It seems like an act of desperation since his army is failing or doesn't have the will to kill innocent ppl.

Hungary could have blocked the SWIFT ban.....Orban didn't! Quite the contrary....he is supporting ALL EU sanctions against Russia.

That's far worse for Putin....I'm sure he counted on allies/inside sympathizers like Hungary to prevent the worst punishment actions against him!

That this calculation didn't work might have been one of the biggest nasty surprises for him in this war, and mean even his defeat in the end...
