Germans generally don't have problems with Russians....so what!

you saw no harm in it -

For the last 12 years of so

Poland (and other countries neighboring Russia: Don't trust Russia! Don't Trust Russia~

Germany: You know what? We trust Russia!

After Feb 24, 2022

Germany: How could we possibly have known we couldn't trust Russia? No one (who counts) said anything!!!! Oh well, we can't stop buying Russian hydrocarbons now!!!!

@mafketis

I have written a long ass post about what now (regarding the war in Ukraine)- as BratwurstBoy asked - but the mods didn't let me post it because of some peculiar warnings - and I have no energy to write it again - but it said (among other things) that Germany has no chance to stop the war just like that unless it's ready to see plenty of internal turmoil which refusing to buy energy sources from Russia would mean for Germany

Poland (and other countries neighboring Russia: Don't trust Russia! Don't Trust Russia~

Before the Ukraine shitshow I'd have believed that without NATO Russia could take not only Polant but the Baltics and the rest of the post-soviets as well. Because let's be honest, p. much all those nations' armies are a complete joke, with the exception of Poland and Lithuania.

To give you an idea, Czechia has 15k soldiers, 10 operational tanks (yes, ten, one-zero), 12 jets and 4 gunships. And they're one of the richest post-soviet countries out there.

But after what I've seen with the Kyiv operation and the shitshow at Kharkiv and the river crossing and many other shining examples of Russian competence...yeah, Poland could probably beat Russia alone, especially now that we've bought 250 Abramses and a few dozen F-35s.

Poland could probably beat Russia alone

I agree and Poles would fight just as fiercely and bravely as the Ukrainians.

20 May 2022  #2466

@Korvinus
Don't get ahead of yourself. Poland doesn't have the planes and tanks yet. That said, I do not believe Putin has the balls to go into a NATO country. That is an event with only one of two endings. Nuclear war or the complete wiping out of the Russian armed forces, and I don't think he is willing to risk either.

Paulina

Poland could probably beat Russia alone

Now imagine if we teamed up with Finland (I've read that they have a kick ass army potential), Sweden, the Baltics and Ukraine... Maybe we should make some kind of quiet military alliance with those countries? I mean, if Turkey will get in the way of Finland's and Sweden's NATO membership... (I so want those countries in NATO, btw! ^_^)

And there's the US and the UK to back us up too... πŸ€”

It doesn't really look like we could count on Germany and France in the event of Russia's attack, so... Maybe some kind of back up plan (Plan B) should be prepared with countries neighbouring with Russia...?

Poland doesn't have the planes and tanks yet.

Once we do, of course... I'm hoping for that Polish "Iron Dome" too... πŸ™

By "Plan B" I mean - if one of the Russia's neighbours gets attacked by Russia, all the rest of Russia's neighbours come together to defend that country (kind of like NATO's article 5).

Now imagine if we teamed up with Finland (I've read that they have a kick ass army potential)

They do and the UK has already made mutual pacts with them and Sweden( who's military is pretty good too).

Paulina

@Miloslaw, that's nice! Maybe Poland should make such a pact too...

I think they should.

Sikorski stayed off the booze for one night and did a Munk Debate, the realists/appeasers vs the hawks/courageous. He did very well and was passionate and powerfull. Radeks debating partner Proff Michael McFaul was excellent as well. Proff John Mearsheimer on the realist side, was off with the faeries a lot more than I expected, at one point he said there is no proof russia is acting like an imperial power to laughter from the audience.

The topic was - Be it resolved, ending the world's worst geopolitical crisis in a generation starts with acknowledging Russia's security interests and the Con side comprehensively won.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Poland doesn't have the planes and tanks yet.

Still, Polish Army has a stock of 1009 tanks, including 249 Leopard 2 and 232 PT-91. And three squadrons of F-16s
Few years ago Poland was buying every used Leopard 2 that Germany was willing to sell. The price for used tanks was really good - and auntie Angela and Polish government were on their way to demilitarize Germany.

Finally someone in Bundeswehr realized that production of new tanks was lagging behind and the number of usable tanks was actually going down - and that forced auntie Angela to stop selling.

This war offers us a possibility to get rid of T-72s once and for all - by giving them to Ukraine. Killing orks, what a beautiful end of career for the oldboys!

4 gunships

The Czech Republic has ships? Presumably river vessels?

plenty of internal turmoil

Many, many countries will have this. A growing global food crisis, with or without this war, plus the inevitable changes that major wars bring.

the UK has already made mutual pacts with them and Sweden

An alliance between those three, Poland, Ukraine and Georgia would be interesting.

LOL. I meant gunships, like attack choppers.

gunship

BTW Do you remember like Russian invasion ended the last time?

tank

People tend to undervalue tanks nowadays, especially after the Ukrainian fiasco where Ruski tanks blow up like fireworks. But that's mostly due to Russians being braindead.

In reality there's nothing like a brigade of modern tanks that are used properly. You can punch a hole through any line with those. Watch some video about Sandstorm - Iraqi T-72s couldn't even harm US' Abramses, they got rolled over like toys. And that was 30 fuc*king years ago. P. much all the Russian tanks are STILL T-72 or its various facelifts. Do the math.

Sooner or later they will be remote controlled. And almost unstoppable.

the Russian tanks are STILL T-72 or its various facelifts

Ivan cookers.

The (last) wartime ones were built by russia to have a working life of six months, few of the tank crews lasted much longer than six weeks.

They do. They have a great background in UN Peacekeeping missions. And the Scandinavians are great soldiers too - Viking Power! :)) It's in the blood. Here's a nice short piece 'Soldiers of Peace - Estonia, Finland and Ireland' To me, the UN Peacekeeping missions exemplify the best of what a 'modern' soldier should be, in the 21st century.

Here they are... The Russians bombed the whole battery... πŸ˜„

A strike was recorded on a Ukrainian battery of 155 mm M777 howitzers made in the USA

The footage shows the village of Podgornoye, DPR.

In just one day, rocket troops and artillery of the Russian Armed Forces hit 76 nationalist command posts, 421 enemy manpower and military equipment concentration areas.

Pardon, I meant to say where were they before the destruction by the Russian air force?

Little damage and will be repaired by morning and trains running again. That's what over a million dollars gets Russia.

You were probably beat up a lot as a kid huh? Must be lonely in mommies basement.

That's what over a million dollars gets Russia

They spent $6.5 million on a cruise missile to damage a beach bar!

No wonder they're losing.

Then again, TOR date back to the Soviet Union. I suppose they're running out of the real weapons that they bought from that period stain Macron.

the Con side comprehensively won.

Thanks for the link, awesome debate! And they touched upon points we've discussed here on the forum.

He did very well and was passionate and powerfull.

Every time I saw Sikorski in an English speaking interview or debate he did great. Intelligent, always giving a retort, good arguments, but at the same time polite, calm, restrained and even charming at times. I remember one interview on BBC in which he was defending Poland about something and the journalist was eating out of his hand :) A perfect guy for the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Btw, he worked as a journalist in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion. He saw up close what the Soviets were doing over there... Before Polish GROM was sent to Afghanistan, special operators were talking to Sikorski to find out as much as possible about Afghanistan and how the Taliban fight.

He's not exactly your ordinary politician sitting at the desk most of his life... He has not only great knowledge, but an actual first hand knowledge...

A devastating Russian missile attack on a building in Lozova, in the Kharkiv region.

Have you even read the comments? People are writing that it was a civillian building... So why are you so excited about it getting destroyed? o_O

Maybe you should start thinking about the last Russian. Clearly your life expectancy is dramatically lower than the rest of ours. Keep picking fights you cant win and soon you will go by the way of the Dodo Bird. I will be happy to help send some on their way.

Poor Velund would do very well to look up the meaning of a Polish word. ThereΒ‘s no exact equivalent in English however the meaning is very clear That word is konsekwentny.

Velund
20 May 2022  #2489

your life expectancy is dramatically lower

There is subtle difference between expectancy and reality. ;) If I ever will have to drive to Krakov not on a car, we will discuss this matter - and I'll present you to Mr. Vinogradov (АКА ΠšΠŸΠ’Π’ AKA 56-П-562Π’).

And about article 5 - there is a lot of variants that may happens in the case of direct clashes between russian and polish troops on ukrainian territory. Starting from "expression of deep concern about the attack on the NATO ally and a pledge to strengthen AUKUS unity even more" to exchange by nuclear strikes. I think, first variant is much more realistic. Read original documents, not MSM legends about it.

jon357

polish troops on ukrainian territory

There are no Polish troops deployed to fight on Ukrainian territory. Only russia has invaded.

NATO ally

As you know, Poland is not a "NATO ally".

It is a NATO member.
