Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 4

Typical of ungrateful people who simply should have never been allowed into the country.

Very true. Nevertheless, Poland was really lucky to get rid of that (now American) idiot.

Russia doesn't like the idea. Hence, the war.

And, of course, this is retarded and backwards. Russia is a declining power, its industry and demographics going down, its fuel based economy being threatened by ecology shite. Russia attacked now, because it might not have been able to later. This is the last hurrah of the old Russian system, with the last big cohort, using the last remains of the USSR arsenal, at the last moment where being a petrol state is lucrative enough to fund an empire.
Its a petrol state, that exports wood and imports chairs. It has no imperial future. Should join a bigger project, so it can attach itself to something successful. It may be China, it may be Europe. At any rate, it won't be a polarity of its own. Its over for Russia, they are a defeated empire, and have been for 30 years.

And so the great breakup begins;

Ingushetia is an autonomous republic that is part of the Russian Federation, located on the northern slopes of the Caucasus. Its representatives have criticized the authorities in the Kremlin before, but now the Ingush media are writing about a historic moment. "For the first time, the society, represented by its national movement, proclaims the goal of creating an independent state,"

Suck on that comrades

And so the great breakup begins;

Not yet. They will still wait for a better moment when the Russian armies are completely demoralised, their economy shattered and citizens on the verge of a revolution. Then the Russian Empire will fall like a house of cards and its non-Russian pieces will fight for independence.

But this moment hasn`t come yet.

Germany Closes In on a Decision to Send Leopard Tanks to Ukraine

bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-01-13/germany-closes-in-on-a-decision-to-send-leopard-tanks-to-ukraine?srnd=premium-europe#xj4y7vzkg&leadSource=uverify%20wall&leadSource=uverify%20wall

...Berlin will make a decision before a meeting of senior defense officials from allied nations at the American airbase in Ramstein on Jan. 20, according to a German official familiar with the plans, who asked not to be identified because the matter is confidential. ....

Hmmmm.....maybe a compromise?

...It's still unclear if Germany will only allow other countries to send Leopard tanks or if it will send such tanks itself. Besides the Leopard 2 tanks, there are still about 180 versions of the older Leopard 1 in Germany. German officials point out that the Leopard 1, which is from the 1960s, would still be able to compete with a Russian battle tank.

@Bratwurst Boy
I think Germany is getting pressure from the rest of the EU and US. Germany looks to be holding on to the idea that at some point Russian relations can be brought back to pre-invasion levels. While the rest of the western world is saying that it is impossible to return to that model. France has this problem as well. The way that nations have held back, the US included, has cost thousands of Ukraine lives. I understand the profiteering of the US MIC and other reasons, but at some point the west is going to have to put an end to this. Either with weapons that will turn the tide, or with some direct intervention, if there is to be an end without a negotiated pace.

If tanks from the 1960's can compete with Russian modern tanks, that is quite a statement on Russian armament. A few hundred of those could make a big difference in places like Soledar. Imagine what 500 tanks could do in Ukraine if they appeared on the battlefield now.

I think in that regard the polish medial move about sending their own Leopards to Ukraine was bold but needed.....and a little revenge for german arrogance concerning Nord Stream and general russian bootlicking for so many years inspite of lotsa warnings is understandable!

Absolutely....I'm awed! :)

Germanys are not known for giving up dumb and terrible ideas easily....

The way that nations have held back

well partly the US plan seems to be to militarily exhaust russia so that it won't be able to attack any other country for decades (except with nukes which means bye bye russia forever)

Europe is terrified of changing the status quo (see softball reaction to 2014 which led directly to 2022)

Clearly russia has some kind of leverage (most likely kompromat) on a number of different European "leaders" who are being worse than useless....

14 Jan 2023  #2319

if Germany will only allow

The countries who want to send Leopards need to ignore Germany and send them. Basically call their bluff about the export licences and send them anyway.

Germany could do very little; the idea of them suing all the other EU member states involved is laughable and of course it would mean a permanent end to arms sales from those countries. There are several very good alternative suppliers of weapons.

No...but Putin would probably smile big as it would not strenghten the alliance at all!

But I'm fairly sure Scholz will give his okay soon.....

NATO? It would probably strengthen it well.

It would probably strengthen it well.

How so?

There is a reason that Warsaw till now didn't even made an official request to Berlin but only talked loudly to the media about polish Leopards for Ukraine....

@mafketis
The US plan is obvious. The timeline, IMO, is being drawn out too long and costing too many lives. Russia is weak. How much weaker before Putin gets even crazier do we want to push things? There is always a nuclear risk, no matter how slight. I think a mass casualty event or events in Ukraine wiping out a few thousand men in a day or two would turn the tide of things. Send another two dozen rocket systems and a load of missiles and then let $hit fly. Give them a taste of their own medicine and I think pressure mounts quickly on little Vlad to end things.

Looks like it. Hopefully he won't just approve the delivery of tanks but also contribute some. It will hardly escalate things if e.g. 70 instead of 50 Leopard 2 are send to Ukraine.

but only talked loudly to the media

Things like that make me suspect that reservations against sending Western MBT may have been much stronger and more wide-spread than has been communicated. PiS can hardly be accused of treating Berlin with silk gloves, but only started to put pressure on them recently and has yet to formally make a request on this issue. This is from the same government that dis not hesitate to get the expected rebuke on the reparation issue.

that the eyes of the world are watching....

I suspect that this is but one consideration Scholz takes into account. He seems to be particulary held down by the weight of history. Like he said, he does not want to become a second Wilhelm II who escalated a crisis to a catastrophy. Which is not the worst strategy a German chancellor can follow, but it is also not really fitting the situation anymore.

the sickness of the inferior russian system is that the Tsar is not pressured... the Tsar pressures..... russians were stupid and feckless enough to make sure there are no checks and balances in the system and no non-violent way of changing leadership.... it's medieval in its basic form.

putain has had many potential off-ramps and he soiled his pants at every single one....

but there's no on else.... dysfunctional societies create dysfunctional governments that create dysfunctional messes that other countries have to come along and fix....

On top of Challenger tanks and self-propelled guns, UK will also send Apache helicopters to Ukraine...

dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/britain-apache-helicopters-ukraine-war-28957065

... the UK would seem to be the only country in Europe apart from Poland that realises how important
it is to support Ukraine in this war.* Fair play to the Brits - keep up the good work!

*OK, the Baltics realise the danger too, but they are too small to help significantly

JEW-LENSKY

Shut up, nazi. Why are you a nazi?

The Werewolf' who killed 83 women volunteers to fight for Putin

russia's finest.... (probably true, he was good at what he did... which is more than you can say about most russians who tend toward failure and self-pity)

side question: Why, after Feb 24, after Bucha, after mass attacks on civilian infrastructure (ie war crimes) is Scholz still on russia's side? Do Germans not feel endangered with such a compromised figure as their head of state? If not.... then why not?

Bratwurst Boy
15 Jan 2023  #2336

If not.... then why not?

I guess you (the West) just got what you wanted?

A totally pacified, totally demilitarized Germany? Endless war guilts and blames and memories whenever it was politically convenient?

A country willing and able to go to war needs a psychological foundation to do so....to want to....one of them is pride, being proud of it's military, of it's military history....Germany wasn't allowed that, and that's the consequence?

Maybe an interesting lesson....you can't de-fang a country and expect it still to be a dependable, active war-ally if need be....that just doesn't work!

Tacitus
16 Jan 2023  #2337

not expect that amount of bile

He is essentially right though. Germany today is a thoroughly pacifist nation, and its current politicians (as best exemplified by the SPD) have a deep aversion to anything military related and are painfully aware of the crimes commited by the Third Reich. Expecting them to be fine with once again sending tanks at an area where the worst crimes of the Wehrmacht have ben commited, against a country they once invaded and whose part of the war is the most remembered is really stretch. Which was the intention of Allied reeducation.

(Yes it would be in defence of another former victim and for a just cause, but it remains deeply unsettling)..

jon357
16 Jan 2023  #2338

A totally pacified, totally demilitarized Germany?

What's wrong with that?

Nevertheless, if s country makes huge amounts of money from producing weapons, they must play their part and not deliberately use legalistic small print to attempt to prevent others from doing so.

Hopefully common sense will prevail and the countries with Leopards will declare force majeure and send them anyway.

Bratwurst Boy
16 Jan 2023  #2339

What's wrong with that?

...in peace times absolutely nothing!

they must play their part and not deliberately use legalistic small print to attempt to prevent others from doing so.

....in pacified german eyes those Leopards would follow where the Tigers once roamed. It would not be exactly a second Holocaust, but something close!

On the other hand, this question is now discussed and talked about....I guess Germany will change again in the course of this war....especially psychologically!

PolAmKrakow
16 Jan 2023  #2340

force majeure

In contract law, that phrase is only applicable in times of war when the country making that declaration is actually under attack. It cannot be used to simply break a contract to assist a third party who is not party to the contract. If it were to be used in the manner you suggest, it would become an easy out clause for any country wanting to do what ever they wanted with any contract. Since Germany and the other countries considering sending these tanks are not in a state of emergency or at war, using such a clause is extremely unlikely and would not hold up in any international court.
