Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 4

mafketis

He is essentially right though.

Absolutely..... Germany's uninspiring response was a side effect of years of wrongheaded propaganda....

The lessons of WWII are not about Germany but about human nature. Making the message "germans did terrible horrible things and are responsible for them forever" is a big part of why Germany is unsuited to the leadership role it wants now. And it also made russians blind (or coddled them in their blindness) about how militaristic and inhuman its own military history is.....

There's also the idea that the russians have kompromat on certain politicians (like... all the German ones and Orban and Macron).

russians have kompromat on certain politicians

That is where my money would go if I were gambling. Putin has had spies everywhere, he was KGB and that is classic KGB activity. Just like the poisonings, falls from windows and trumped up charges to lock people away. Thug mentality.

.....but.....Scholz???

What "kompromat" could that be? He is such a....unadventurous personality....boring really.....

Oh you sheltered thing.... it's those with unadventurous boring personalities that hide the darkest secrets....

Or it could be not about him directly but about something bigger.... no way to know really.

Germany is unsuited to the leadership role it wants

Germany never wanted a military leadership role. We are content leading the EU in politics and economic matters, that is where we are good at.

There's also the idea

A stupid conspiracy theory and I say this as someone who does not like Scholz. He is part of a generation to whom war with Russia is unthinkeable and he also knows that the majority of Germans is against delivering tanks for the same. That is explanation enough.

Besides, if the Russians hahd something on him, they would have used it by now from preventing Germany to become Ukraine's second biggest supplier of aid or implementing further EU sanctiona.

mafketis

We are content leading the EU in politics and economic matters

Not enough... a leader needs to be a leader in all fields or happy to delegate and support the leader.... who is the military leader of the EU?

war with Russia is unthinkeable

too bad the russians don't feel the same way....

In contract law,

That depends, it can be invoked in all sorts of crises. I'm actually dealing with this in my work at the moment, in a country that is not currently at war.

would not hold up in any international court.

Germany would not dare take the issue to the European courts.

Their hand would be forced.

roamed. It would not be exactly a second Holocaust, but something close!

Germany is not being asked to lead, drive or motivate.

Merely to stop hampering other countries (with whom they have a bad military history) by not hampering their plans by the use of bureaucracy.

Germany is not being asked to lead, drive or motivate.

Things would be much simpler if that was indeed the case.

jon357
16 Jan 2023  #2349

if that was indeed the case.

It is.

They have merely been instructed to stop using bureaucratic small print to act in three interests of a genocidal autocracy and against the will of sovereign countries.

And of course they are acting against their own economic interests since this will certainly harm future weapons exports. Why buy something from someone if they subsequently invoke trivial regulations to prevent you using it as you wish.

Tacitus
16 Jan 2023  #2350

Oh please. There have been demands for Germany to be the first to either send or approve the delivery of Western MBT for many months now. Poland and other countries only actively started to come forward after Germany (together with the USA and France) agreed to send Marders to Ukraine.

@jon357
Force majeure in a military contract between nations is a whole different animal than a claim of force majeure in a commercial agreement between private persons or entities. These contracts, even if they have a force majeure clause in them, are governed by the State in which the contract is written. These contracts, having read a few, are always written in the country producing the product for export, and within that contract there is always a clause indicating that the contracting party from outside that jurisdiction avails themselves to defending any breach of contract within the producing party's jurisdiction. This is exactly why Poland can not export anything from the US to Ukraine without the US allowing it. Do you think Poland would stand a chance in a US court? Just as much as no one else will stand a chance in a German court. These things are also described in the last 5 EU treaties.

That said, I wish you were actually correct in this position and that other countries could do what they want. But it will not happen.

jon357

The one I'm involved in is state-state

And of course the idea of Germany trying to enforce small print against other NATO member states is risible.

They should just defy German heel-dragging.

The German MOD just resigned, so maybe things will speed along now. Thats the good news.

In other good news, more Orcs have been liquidated today. Happy gulag biatches!

Ukraine won't get Abrams before Poland gets what they have ordered. Abrams probably never see Ukraine.

It's not about restraint, it's about not being a terrorist state. Russia targets civilian buildings with aim to murder women and children in them; all this happens without any formal declaration of war - a definition of terrorist action. Ukraine wouldn't sink as low as that.

The only thing that surprises me is that some civilised countries (Poland included) still upkeep diplomatic relations with Russia. They should be broken long ago and restarted only after the terrorists currently ruling Russia are imprisoned and tried for war crimes. No negotiations with terrorists.

16 Jan 2023  #2358

. Thats the good news.

That is exceptionally good news.

Perhaps now we'll see some action from them.

And the Challenger 2s are on their way. They don't have the same offensive capability as the Leopards however they're designed with the safety and survival of the occupants in mind, and despite r*SSia's comments today, will not "burn on the battlefield". Only one has ever been destroyed, and that was a blue on blue incident by another challenger.

They are a big step in turning the tide of the war; if the Leopards are freed, that's the next big step.

.only in the case of german build Leopards!

Especially in that case. The German defence industry is a good one. Obviously I prefer to see the UK's thrive, however enforcing export licences will not do much for future sales.

GefreiterKania
16 Jan 2023  #2359

if the Leopards are freed

I really don't understand why PiS is suddenly so worried about the German permission to send the tanks. F*ck it. We should send at least half of them (120) to Ukraine, with ammo, support vehicles etc. right away. K2s have already started arriving, Abrams are on their way, eventually we are going to give up German weapons for American/Korean stuff - no point hanging on to those Leopards now. Ukraine needs them more than we do.

Most likely because they shared those reservations as well and only recently changed course.

I feel the same.

The Polish government has been completely consistent in its approach right from the start of this war and even before.

One of only two or three governments plus Finland and the Baltics to be firm about the necessary approach to r*SSian aggression and about not changing course.

American man has message for Serbian trolls for Russia......

"Maybe we should come back and finish the job some time? Clearly we left too many scumbags alive." LMFAO

In other news from the real war, Russia resorted to using air to sea cruise missiles in their most recent attacks killing civilians. Because these missiles have to be repurposed from their original intent of sinking aircraft carriers, Russia is showing they are running low on accurate missiles. These repurposed cruise missiles are only accurate to within 500 yards. Yes, you read that right, 500 yards. Meaning in real terms they can miss their target by nearly one third of a mile. WOW Now that is some real impressive enginuity! Russian technology at its finest.

In other less noteworthy news, little Vlad when finding out the accuracy of the cruise missiles has asked how accurate the nuclear missile arsenal is. Generals are now reporting to him that a missile aimed at Washington should hit Washington but could potentially hit St. Petersburg if it was fired into a strong headwind. In related news, one general fell out of a hotel window shortly after his meeting with little Vlad to deliver the news. Happy gulag biatches!

A handy gift to Ukraine to help them fight ruSSist fascism and atrocities and to help them get the orcs out of their country (whether on foot or horizontally) has just been announced by the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace.

It's not everything, may not be a game changer, but it will make a difference. And it will of course set an example for others to follow. The r*SSian gangster regime are apparently seething with impotent rage.

The list includes (but is not limited to:

- A squadron of Challenger 2 tanks
- 8 x AS90 guns + more on various stages of readiness
- 100s more armoured vehicles, including Bulldog
- dozens of drones
- another 100,000 artillery rounds
- 100s more "sophisticated missiles"
- spare parts to support up to 100 Ukrainian tanks and armoured fighting vehicles

Also another training package (since the last one worked very well indeed). Training for the Challengers starts immediately.

Interestingly, not all the weapons are from stocks. Some have been bought on the open market specifically to supply to Ukraine. Good news.

Great move by the UK.
Only the USA is doing more.
This will hopefully shame the French and Germans into doing more too.

France and Germany have in fact more contributed than the UK.

Those numbers are only through November 2022, and reading the graph the UK has contributed more than Germany or France. Germany and France do lead the way for the EU though.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion. The graphs show the UK clearly in 4th place. Yes it is only until November, bit there is to my knowledge no better source and there will always be some timely delay until information can be processed.
