During the last few weeks I was kind of half-assuming that some of the Ukrainian statements about doom and gloom in Bakhmut were PR so that then they held the burned out shell it would be more of a victory (for Ukraine) and more of a defeat for russia (richly deserved).

Industrial production was an advantage of the USSR, not Russia. Without the other republics, and after multiple economic crises, there is little left. Just look at the production numbers of anything new or semi-new and compare them to what the Soviet Union was doing in the early 70's. I don't even need to mention the T-14, where are all the T-90's? I could understand if something like mass-production of the T-72 began again, but we're talking about taking tanks that have been sitting in open storage for decades and retrofitting them. A country with an industrial advantage would be making modern or semi-modern designs, not digging up early Cold War tanks to upgrade.
