Rolling eyes

Roll away, orc.

And be careful you don't get typhoid from your pit latrine.

government with oil revenues allows it to be stolen by kleptocrats and oligarchs

I won't argue with that. Why do they allow this to happen to their country?

Russia, with all the intelligence, creativity and resources at their disposal, should be a global superpower on par with the US and China. Oh, well... *sighs*

Rolling eyes again and again...

But you're rolling your eyes at Rosstat statistics :D That's your own stats! lol 🤦

As for the toilet question, it's a non issue.

Not for people who don't have a toilet in their house (and often a proper bathroom too). Watch "Nasz nowy dom" on Polsat if you don't believe me..

Not that long ago in most Polish villages you could also see those wooden latrines,

Not in my grandma's village... There was a toilet inside my grandparents' house since I can remember. The house has running water although there is no connection to the sewage system, so a septic tank has to be used.

It is understandable that having plumbing in your blood you are trying to narrow all life aspects to plumbing and sewging alone.

since I can remember

When I said "not that long ago" I rather meant 100 years, not 20. :)

Jon357 is British :)))

When I said "not that long ago" I rather meant 100 years

A century is definitely a long time ago though lol :))

Depends on the perspective. :)

Not just to plumbing and sewing - it looks like RuSSia is lacking in all kinds of aspects of life. And instead of fixing its problems RuSSia invades its neighbours and causes problems for other countries and even more problems for itself.

Depends on the perspective. :)

Well, maybe for Elves and Ents from Tolkien world 100 years isn't that long, but Elves and Ents don't exist in our world ;D

Why throw such a relatively small population into a war meat grinder?

You're the russophile.... why?

Wouldn't it be a better idea to educate and train them, and then put them to hard work to make Russia great?

You really dont' seem to understand russian values. Once you get what motivates them, everything they do makes perfect sense (in that you understand what motivates them not that it makes any rational sense). On the other hand, your russophilia probably would not survive the realization.

plumbing in your blood

Or more accurately, seeing the importance of public health measures to reduce disease and improve the quality of life of the many, not just the few.

But then again, you're just trying to distract from r*SSia's current failure on the battlefield.

Well, maybe for Elves and Ents from Tolkien world 100 years isn't that long

Some of us here have/had parents who were born not long after then and grandparents who were adults long before that.

They remembered the privations, disease and discomfort of that era and fought long and hard to change it. The r*SSians still passively put up with it and sit drinking vodka while the bourgeoisie steal everything from them.

Everything the civilised world has moved in from is still there in r*SSia.

Health in the UK? Kidding? You are living in the cast society with aristocrats and just peasants ...

But then again, you're just trying to distract from r*SSia's current failure on the battlefield.

Rolling eyes...

Health in the UK

Read the stats, compared to r*SSia.

Life expectancy
Infant mortality
Sanitation
Prognoses on cancer diagnosis
Surgical survival rate
Alcoholism and other substance addiction.

Come on, in your place, i would never ever start telling about substance abuse. It is better to drink than be on meth or crack... Prozac society.

I have been to the toilet outdoors - in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and lots of African countries. Belarus and Bulgaria too come to think of it. But here in Poland we are aspirational souls and want something better.

I know there are great mathematicians in Udmurtia. I also know that it has fine traditions in art and music. But those people have only two ways to prosper - bow down before the murderers or emigrate to New York, Paris, Berlin and Vienna. And it has been like that since 1905.

Belarus and Bulgaria

Apparently it's not Russia, but Romania that's the record holder in Europe for lack of access to centralized sewers. I think they have much less excuse for it too, given the size of their country.

29.7%

Don`t be stupid and stop twisting. We are talking about Russia which is waging cruel wars instead of improving the situation at home. Is Romania waging wars? No. So fekk off it and take care of your miserable country which invades its neighbours to steal washing machines and fridges to improve the standard of living for Russian citizens. :(:(:(:(:(.

You might have to try a bit harder than that to get your 3 kopeks from Glavset.

No beetroot for you tonight, Vlad....

Kitsch most of it.

I think they have much less excuse for it too,

You have chosen one of the poorest countries in Europe for years (that had one of the worst communist regimes in Europe) with many other problems than just not having indoor toilets.

Comparing a country like Romania to a former empire and present day superpower with vast natural resources and one of the highest number of billionaires in the world and with such a potential like RuSSia is pretty ridiculous/pathetic...

Gypsies?

The Soviet Union.

Gypsies

Are they a country now?

Mind you, they'd be better than orcs...

the highest number of billionaires in the world

And this of course is the problem.

Are they a country now?
Mind you, they'd be better than orcs...

Short answer... no, gypsies can never have any kind of mono-ethnic existence because there are too many jobs that are necessary for that that they simply won't do. They need a host culture to take care of most things so they can devote all their energies toward being gypsies.

A little like the Amish or very Orthodox Jews in that regard.

And this of course is the problem.

Yes, it's not the number of billionaires in russia that's the problem but the massive stratficiation that goes along with it. Sadly many other countries like the US (and UK) are trying to mimic that stratification....

Countries aren't made by rich people or the proletariat but by the middle class and countries without a functioning middle class (like russia?) are at a permanent disadvantage, no matter how many other countries they invade.

jon357
1 Sep 2023  #1257

They need a host culture

Or a subject race, perhaps the remnant of r*SSians after the war.

There are certainly some cultural taboos, however since r*SSians have very few, of any, standards, they would be good as serfs to the Roma people.

Amish

I saw a film of the appallingly primitive way some r*SSians live, in villages far from Moscow. There were parallels with the Amish however unlike the Amish, they didn't have any culture or religion. Worse clothes too, The Amish always seem to dress well; the r*SSian villagers were just wearing very diverts nylon tat.

many other countries like the US (and UK) are trying to mimic that stratification

I just read "Welcome to Everytown: A Journey into the English Mind" by Julian Baggini. A book written in about 2009 based in a year he spent in a postal code district that is according to census stats as typical as it gets in terms of old/young, white/BAME, religious/non-religious, more/less educated, owner occupier/renter etc, etc. The area is not unfamiliar to me since I lived there once, a long time ago, The book was partly to shock people who live in hipstery places or more cultured urban areas, to stress that on the whole, the white working class are still the majority and a few other things. I'd just been reading about standards of life in r*SSia and the contrast hit me between the awful, grindingly poor and hopeless life in r*SSia, the endemic alcoholism, the violence and the hugely stratified society there and the more genial, community minded and kinder life in the poorer parts of the U.K.. That and the material differences between the poorer parts of the U.K., its social housing (we did Socialism properly) and the squalor of r*SSia. And of course 100% of homes there have indoor plumbing.

There's also a chance of social mobility, a chance to get out and do something better. In r*SSia this is only possible through vi9lence, crime or prostitution.

And this of course is the problem.

The real problem is billionaire Rishi-Fishi Sunak as PM in your country :) who even do not know how to refill the tank of his car himself without help of his servant...

jon357
2 Sep 2023  #1259

billionaire Rishi

He isn't though. He's the son of a pharmacist who did well at school and married a rich woman from abroad. He worked in the toy and did well..Hes also considered honest and transparent, unlike any r*SSian politician.

His predecessor Liz Truss is not thought to be rich, Boris Johnson is always complaining he's short of cash, and before that was Theresa May, a priest's daughter.

And of course we'll vote that party out at the next election.

None of the above have palaces, yachts or billions.

Now tell us about Putin's oligarchs, his billions, his palaces and their yachts. And tell us about the very low quality of elections in r*SSia. Where has Putler's vast wealth cone from?

However you are just trying to distract from r*SSia's current losses and poor performance on the battlefield.
