Why is a simple principle like 'dont' invade' so hard for russians to understand?

I'm really curious... two simple words with no extra weird meanings attached when you put them together.... but russians seem unable to comprehend... is it something in the water or is the urge/instinct towards violence and theft so strong that it overrides every other instinct?


There's no possible positive outcome for russia at this point... and still they're keeping at it.... so stupid, so very, very stupid.....

How about this:

1) Right on the heels of a humiliating pullout from Afghanistan, and after making a disaster of Iraq and Libya - America's reputation is finally shattered for good after it leaves Ukraine hanging high and dry following a Republican victory in the 2024 elections.

2) The Germans, French, and Italians get yet another taste of the wonderful consequences of dancing to Washington's tune.

3) Russia acquires vast reserves of mineral resources (the largest in Europe outside of Russia), and even more important farmland (again, the best in Europe).

4) The Azov Sea is made into an inner Russian lake, while our Black Sea coast line more than doubles.

5) Neighbors, from Belarus to Kazakhstan, will now think long and hard about how best to conduct foreign policy towards Russia.

6) Our companies, which struggled for years to compete against Western competitors, will have a crucial stretch of time to husband our market and develop their own supply chains.

I could think of plenty more upsides :)

We can see how insane the Polish political class is. They seem eager to enter into this conflict. Maybe this is a direct sign that their military leaders do not think the same way. They know what the reality is and have better judgment. One can only hope.

Well... out of my list, #s 3,4 and 5 are probably the most meaningful ones. They are also the ones that have already happened - no need to imagine anything.

Of course we could still lose it all, if the Ukrainians stage a successful counteroffensive. Right now, that seems a little far fetched.

C, D, and L are not hostile and Russia has no plans to occupy Western Ukraine. Only to make it very unattractive as a member of NATO.

Even NATO's own rules preclude applications with border disputes. It's like buying life insurance with Stage 4 cancer. No go...

I just spelled it out above.

Donetsk and Luhansk were the industrial heartland of not just modern-day Ukraine, but also the entire Soviet Union. The coal and iron ore reserves there, is what allowed Ukraine to remain a top 10 country in mining and metallurgy. Now that is again Russian.

The Azov Sea, is now a Russian lake - unless Ukraine manages to liberate the coast somehow.

Crimea and Kherson, have allowed us to double our Black Sea coastline. That means all the offshore riches, all the port infrastructure, and everything else along that line is ours and our children's.

No matter what you think, countries like Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and so on - have measured this conflict up against themselves. They know, that nobody will help them like Ukraine was helped. They have to find ways to accommodate Russia.

These are all nice little victories that don't involve controlling Kiev (which would still be nice).
