Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 8

There is no chance Musk loses control of Starlink.

Wasn't he forced to step back from running Tesla by its shareholders due to erratic behaviour and injudicious comments while on drugs?

cant take over a private company

Just nationalise it. Not unusual if there are military applications. Or put pressure on the louse in another way; if he wants any government contracts he has to play ball.

no chance Musk loses control of Starlink.

There was a diplomatic announcement not long after his refusal to use it for Crimea became public and it wasn't hard to deduce that he was no longer making decisions about its use in Ukraine....

Ironically of course Ukraine has since pushed the russian navy out of occupied Crimea, it just took a lot longer and cost a lot more lives because of Musks's pro-russian biases....

Z following orders

I would be more in favor of Z following US orders if the US had actually... you know.... won a ground war in living memory....

Poland's PM won't tolerate 'anti-Ukrainian sentiment'

Every Polish patriot must understand the importance of backing Kiev in its conflict with Moscow, Donald Tusk said

1

Newly-installed Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has insisted that he won't tolerate any kind of "anti-Ukrainian sentiment" in the ranks of his government.

Tusk claimed in an interview with TVN24 on Friday that in the run-up to last October's election the right-wing Law and Justice Party (PiS) "tried to play an anti-Ukrainian note" to remain in power and that nothing of this kind will happen on his watch.

"I will never allow anyone in my government to build their position on some kind of anti-Ukrainian sentiment," the pro-EU politician, who headed the Polish government between 2007 and 2014 and was president of the European Council from 2014 to 2019, vowed.

Kiev needs the backing of Warsaw and the entire West because "as long as Ukraine is fighting Russia, we are relatively safe," he explained.

"There can be no doubts about... our involvement and the involvement of the entire Western world in support of Ukraine... Every Polish patriot must absolutely recognize these reasons," Tusk stressed.

The PM called upon Europe to "rise to the occasion" and invest more money in assisting Kiev because Poland "won't be able to cope financially" with such a task on its own.

Poland has been one of Ukraine's prime backers in the EU after the outbreak of the conflict with Russia in February 2022, supplying Kiev with arms, accepting around 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees, and consistently advocating for more sanctions on Moscow.

However, a falling out between the neighbors occurred in September 2023 after Ukraine filed a now-suspended complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO) over Poland and some other EU states for banning Ukrainian grain deliveries. The PiS government in Warsaw said it would focus on Poland's own security and would not be sending weapons to Ukraine anymore, except for some old, decommissioned ones.

Polish truckers continue to block border crossings with Ukraine in protest against the EU's decision to exempt their Ukrainian counterparts from needing permits to enter the bloc.

When addressed on the issue, Tusk acknowledged that "there is a second dimension" in relations between Warsaw and Kiev. "The Poles want to help Ukraine, but they can't be harmed by the Ukrainians," he explained.

The PM said that he will visit Ukraine in the coming days and, among other things, discuss ways to resolve what he called "pathological situations" on the border.

@jon357
This is exactly the point Jon. The US cannot nationalize a company without going through a court proceeding and proving that company has a monopoly on things which would violate antitrust laws. It is not Europe where governments own companies. The US couldnt nationalize General Motors or Ford or any other company durring WW2. They couold only contract with them, order military production and pay for that production. No such thing as nationalizing a business in the US. The government trying to make companies "play ball" would not work. Private corporations would tell the government to FO and keep doing business.

@mafketis
Musk never lost control of Starlink. An diplomatic announcement? That means nothing. Elon Musk owns SpaceX 42% equity, and 79% of the voting rights. Who is going to tell him what to do? NASA and the US government need SpaceX, not the other way around. As for your comment on the gorund war, who lead the last NATO intervention in Europe in Yugoslavia? Iraq war, won, new government still operating without US support. Afghanistan? Won, and the people didnt want the US there, so they left, and now they get what they asked for. When was the last war Poland won in living memory? Fvcking ignorant.

it wasn't hard to deduce that he was no longer making decisions about its use in Ukraine....

A good thing.

The US cannot nationalize a company without going through a court proceeding

It's a bit different for us. I think it needs to go to parliament if it's nationalisation without compensation for a business that isn't a strategic one that is about to fail (rare and in emergencies) otherwise they just transfer the company's shares to the Treasury Solicitor.

Surely it's possible over there for military reasons?

Private corporations would tell the government to FO and keep doing business.

A very bad thing when a private business can dictate terms to a country's population.

Trying to hijack world affairs on the basis of domestic matters while tricking the poor into voting against their own interests.

An old trick and sad that people still fall for it.

2. Spend less.
3, Get out of Ukraine.
4. Support Israel.

1. I'm in favor. I just don't trust the republicans on the issue since they're the ones that opened it in the first place. When did they change their mind? What persuaded them that cheap labor with no rights is not a road to societal prosperity?

2. I think more spending is needed on things like infrastructure and (non-ideological) education but when have republicans been in favor of that? they engineered the destruction of public education

3. stupid idea that will quickly lead to war across the world (Azerbaijan is gearing up to invade Armenia... China wants to gulp down Taiwan) only the most gullible think things will stop in Ukraine

4. I do. I'm completely over the loser and murderous palestinians.... send them to egypt and jordan where they belong.

Not only. There are several conflicts brewing right now and the perps will only be emboldened if Putler is allowed to get away with his crimes in Ukraine.

It's no accident that many of them use Al-Masri instead of a tribal name. Trouble is brewing in Egypt and things are going to get ugly there in our lifetimes.

Illiterate black retards are all made in democrat schools.

This dates to the civil rights era, when the nature of school funding was changed from larger to smaller communities (school districts - creating strong inequalities between schools based on local income levels).

Republicans hollowed out funding because of their 'I got mine, Jack' attitude and democrats never met a dumb idea they didn't like and rushed to try out failed social theories in schools....

I remember when the US had a funcitoning public education system that was destroyed in a bi-partisan effort. A crying shame.

Republicans hollowed out funding because of their 'I got mine, Jack' attitude

Much the same where I'm from. They switch funding to wealthy areas where their voters live. At least we don't have that rather silly neo-Calvinist concept of "poor choices" and I hope we never will. Looking at today's newspaper suggests that I may be too optimistic.

@jon357
Not even possible for military reasons. The US, is the free market economy defined. Private business is private, and that is the beauty of it. The citizens can do buisness with it or not, again freedom of choice. We saw this when Russia invaded, and Americans boycotted some companies until the left Russia. The people always have a say, government should never have a say. Under the US constitution, the government is set up as a Republic, not a democracy. That republic is only there to offer small government management under the founding fothers designs. Todays US national government is a gross misinterpretation of what it used to be.

@mafketis
Lets get the facts straight. Illegal immigration was started by a Democrat, and has been maintained by Democrats since it began. Jimmy Carter allowed the trickle to become a river, and Obama let the river become an ocean. You know so little about the US, you think that Republicans were responsible for slavery, when it was a Democratic law that was introduced to catch slaves in the northern states and return them to souther states that resulted in the Republican party being formed in Wisconsin when the republicans went and broke a slave out of a Wisconsin jail who was there on a democratic party arrest. Your view of what the US should do is your view, you are entitled to it whether you are American or not. Only US citizens views count, and the overwhelming majority disagree with your views. Joe Biden even disagrees, he just said yesterday that he doesnt support Taiwan independence.

The US, is the free market economy defined.

Perhaps that's why the gap between rich and poor there is at third world levels.

Not even possible for military reasons

Can their President not enact emergency powers?

It sounds a bit like Germany when the terrorists came to murder Israeli athletes during the Munich Olympics and their government had to stand by and. watch while local traffic cops had to try and fight them since their constitution at that time prevented their government from tackling the problem properly.

Republicans hollowed out funding because

Hey, stupid, Republicans do not control ed budgets in DC, Chicago, Baltimore, NY, LA...Ed budgets are local. The last time Republicans had a mayor in Chicago was 80 years ago.

Also, more money does not equal better education. Daddy at home is a better tool.

How much money did Polish "commies" spend on education in 196x? Not much, and we all turned out fine. My name is on over 40 US patents. How about you?

Bolshevik Chicago spends 18k per student per year. Republican Naperville spends 19k per student per year. Do you want me to compare the outcomes?

BTW, Naperville is often voted as the best place to raise a family in the US. Few democrats, and very few fatherless blacks. The same ed budget as Chicago's.

Now, STFU, and stay in your lane, "fvcking ignorant" ...

like Reagan's amnesty? Carter was in office for 4 years and what did republicans do in the next 12 to reduce illegal immigration? Go ahead and think.... I'll wait....

What did W do?

When did current cheap labor repbulicans have their come-to-jesus moment that made them decide to shut the border? That's all I want, an honest account of what made them change their minds. Without that... I don't believe them and neither should you.

Only US citizens views count

Good, cause I am a citizen, with a memory longer than the current election cycle.

Ed budgets are local.

Exactly, funding went from county-wide to school-district wide at around the same time schools were de-segregated.

When did current cheap labor repbulicans have their come-to-jesus moment that made them decide to shut the border?

That was when the fentanyl, Africans, Chinese, terrorists, hard core gangs and welfare immigrants started pouring in with the Bleeding heart Liberals supporting the NGO's to organize mass immigration of this scum.

Prior to that it was mainly Mexicans that came here to WORK for the season, stayed under the radar, caused no trouble, made no demands and went home after the season was over without expecting any government assistance.

I am so glad you ask that dumb Liberal question.
Maybe the Mod would be kind enough to move these Off-Topic posts to the back page in the U.S.A. thread for us.

Republicans after Carter had to solve the Iran crisis, then the economic crisis, then a little thing called the Berlin Wall and communism. Really, stop with the excuse making for Democrats mainly Obama and Biden who are worthless pieces of $hit. Cheap labor republicans? It is the Democrats who want the illegal labor, Republicans want legal immigration and more visa's for acceptable applicants. The socialist movement in the US will be killed one way or another. The class divide wouldnt be so wide if people who think so highly of themselves worked more than one job, or had some actual fvcking skills. Drop out of school? FO. Dont want to learn a trade? FO. Dont want to work two jobs? FO, you're not serious about lifting yourself up. Nothing should be given to anyone accept those who are mentally or physically handicapped.

It is the "enlightend" of NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco who are complaining now. Those enlightend democrats brought it on themselves and frankly I am laughing at how absolutely stupid they are. Insider traders in congress telling people to put their money in 401K while they are buying stocks seeing 10X and 20X returns. I cannot wait to see Biden tossed from the WH, and kunts like AOC and the other muslim lovers kicked to the curb. Socialism has failed in case people forget. Not once has it worked and not once will it work. There will always be the haves and have nots, the best that a free market economy can do is offer opportunity for people to lift themselves up.

As it effects Ukraine, the best that the US can do is take care of its own people before taking care of other countries. But wait, isnt that what the socialists here want is for the US to provide for everyone? Yet it cant because everyone other than Americans is standing in front of the bankomat.

jon357
14 Jan 2024  #2370

Republicans after Carter had to solve the Iran crisis,

And there were dirty deeds about that too, since America's role in that crisis was specifically about their own diplomats who were hostages and the hostage release was deliberately delayed by individuals behind the scenes until President Carter had left office in order to reflect well on reagan.
