The American Pope is bringing Russia and Ukraine together next week for technical talks at the Vatican. In my lifetime, I could have never imagined an American Pope, and now it looks as though he could be the pease maker too. Not a bad start for him.

Nothing has been agreed for the Vatican next week - North Nigeria has not said that they will attend. The only person who has mentioned the Vatican is Golden Cow who seems completely detached from reality these days. I doubt he even spoke to the pope beforehand, and I don't think the pope has made any comment about this.

Honestly, like most in the US, I am getting war fatigue. Let them keep fighting if no one wants to make a deal. Eventually Russia will be on our eastern border and then we can all be nervous. Ukraine is desperately running out of men, and it will collapse eventually. Putin knows this, and I agree, has strung Trump along. So, Trump should simply back out of talks, and either cut Ukraine off and end it slowly, or load them up and let the war continue.

Ukraine does want to make a deal - they agreed to a ceasefire, agreed the mineral thing, turned up for peace talks.

Given that NN are now clearly the aggressors why is the US not joining the European sanctions ? Why not agree to sell weapons to the Ukrainians ?

What's odd is your hostility toward Ukraine which for the last few months has been extremely willing to make a deal while russia hems and haws and strings Trump along making him look like a fool.

There has never been any hostility toward Ukraine. I have hostility toward all people who act stupid. Zelensky, Putin and Trump all have acted stupid, all deserve to be questioned. The war should have ended long ago, the west prolonged it. Now it looks like there is no end in sight. So if it matters so little to those three, I should not concern myself so much with it.

If unconditional surrender is the NNs aim it will take them decades - they don't have the money, weapons or troop numbers to win this, even if supported by scum dictators in Eritrea and North Korea.

Extrapolation from present dynamics. Wars never develop linearly. This is not a mathematical function.

The last phase is an avalanche...which, in this case, will be quick once it is clear that the US has had it.

Ukraine will run out of men in less than a year unless they lower the conscrition age again. They they will start killing off men who can have families. Russia knows this. The rest of the world knows this. Cant fight a war with no men to operate the machines.

I wonder if Europe will still be doing business with Russia after the war is ended (with a lot of Ukrainian land taken by Russia). In a long term, it would be a bad idea, but does Europe have a choice? Probably they have since they can be energy independent with the help of Norway, Arabs, and the US (natural gas).
