It's my understanding they convinced (I don't know how) russian truck drivers..
They used a clueless truck driver to bomb the Kerch bridge too. Poor guy went up with the truck, and all the cellulose he was hauling.
They rig the trailer to their needs, and then hire a Russian truck driver to haul the freight. That's it.
The drones took off not through the doors, but through the roof section, covered by a tarp. It's probably not difficult to rig a trailer tarp to come off at a certain point.
You know the answer as well as I do
Not really. I mean this sincerely. Many people are wondering what the MoD is thinking.
Historically - Russia and America did not build hardened shelters. Countries like Switzerland, Syria, Iran, etc did - but not the two largest military powers. The rationale was simple:
1) There are hundreds of airbases to which you can relocate if you need to scatter.
2) Both countries forces were largely offensive. There weren't many plans for hunkering down and trying to survive enemy bombings of airbases.
3) Costs were prohibitive, compared to the marginal utility.
4) Nukes are a thing, and no shelter can survive a nuke.
But this war is different in nature and in scope. All the bombers flights are in the same direction, and almost always from the same airbases. Ukraine has ALREADY ATTACKED THESE BASES SEVERAL TIMES. The extent of the response was painting planes on the tarmac, and putting old tires on bombers wings.
For the price of a million dollars or so, you could build a primitive shelter for every plane - that no little FPV drone could damage. These were in the process of being built, but not at all the bases that were hit.
Somehow, the fake planes and the old tires didn't do their job.
