If Russia perishes, who will be there to save us if some Hitler or other sultan goes on a rampage in the Slavic lands again? Well, that's just too bad. These American investors can still work there - they'll just have to pay taxes to Russia. They are free to give half their profits to Ukraine if they so wish.

In December 1945 the USSR was consolidating control over Eastern/Central European territories, laying the groundwork for the so-called "Eastern Bloc". They were also occupying northern Korea, establishing communist administration there (nurturing the rise of Kim Il-sung). What else? The Azerbaijan People's Government (a Soviet-backed puppet state) declared autonomy in northern Iran, and the first meetings of the UN General Assembly and Security Council were being prepared (officially began in January 1946), where the USSR was one of the five permanent members of the Security Council and already maneuvering diplomatically for influence.
