European News and Poland Thread 2

They rather do that than give some money to Poland.

Alot of the money Poland gets is coming from Germany....I might even say the most of it?

It's just that national borders aren't technically an EU matter....that's the whole problem here....every country decides on it's own about them. So there aren't any EU funds to be had for them...

Not to forget Germany waging a war on Poland.

Oh please, cut the hyperbole....or did you already forget how it looks like if Germany really wages war on Poland? Shame on you!

Hahaha Poland is learning how to play the eurocrats at their own game. "In a sign that Warsaw isn't planning to retreat, Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, the man who has pushed through the far-reaching changes to the court system, on Monday said he'll pressure his government to launch a case before the Court of Justice of the EU against Germany for violating the EU Treaties by politicizing its own judiciary. His argument is Germany is guilty of the same thing Poland stands accused of - politicians choosing judges."

U and make it work for you

Gimme a break as if the biased ECJ will rule that Germany does something wrong. The whole situation is ridiculous, The ECJ judges are directly appointed by the political party in charge of each country. There is no appeal court. The most politicized court in Europe is ruling on other countries court systems! what a joke.

we need to fundamentally reform the Commision and ECJ, in alliance with sympatico countries and not just play the game ..

Zbigniew Ziobro, the man who has pushed through the far-reaching changes to the court system

And is a deranged freak who misused the legal system to unethically persecute a doctor because he couldn't accept that his daddy died.... (evidence that the doctor was guilty of anything....... none).

Anyone who thinks of him as any kind of moral authority is...... very, very wrong.

amiga500
19 Oct 2021  #1029

Morawiecki proposed that the ECJ should be appointed by each countries Constitutional Tribunal or Highest Court instead of the government of each country. smart in pointing out the political nature of the ECJ.

who thinks of him as any kind of moral authority is....

What has morality got to do with it? which politician is an moral authority apart from Vaclav Havel?

in alliance with sympatico countries and not just play the game ..

Look for allies, build alliances who scratch your back in return for you scratching theirs....THAT is the game!

Germany plays it well, when will Poland?

Of course...being seen as an integral partner who is committed and brings alot to the table might help your cause more than being seen as the nay-saying fence sitter who is only in for the money anyhow....*shrug*

Germany offers Poland border guards to help manage Belarus arrivals

news.yahoo.com/germany-offers-poland-border-guards-164612748.html

....Germany's interior minister offered to send border control officers to Poland to help the country manage the influx of refugees seeking to enter the European Union from Belarus, adding that Germany could also offer logistical support....

Why hasn't Poland already asked for FRONTEX? It's headquarter is in Warsaw, isn't it.....

A very interesting and detailed interview (in Polish) in wp.pl with Olaf Jansen, Leiter der Zentralen Ausländerbehörde in Eisenhüttenstadt on the present immigration situation in Germany in the context of the recent developments on Poland's border with Belarus:

If anything, the next big change in the EU structure is likely to be at the extreme disadvantage of Poland and Hungary. They know that, hence the current impotent sabre-rattling. Macron doesn't sound too happy either.

You might like this article. it's about the decline (and rise) of empires and touches on some of the points in this thread.
quillette.com/2020/09/30/pasha-glubb-and-avoiding-the-fate-of-empires/

The website is usually too right-wing for my tastes, however the article is interesting. Sort of 'decline of the west' without all the Spengler nonsense.

Sort of 'decline of the west'

The West declines because the West is run by girlie men who listen to their bit*chy women and are deathly afraid of being called anything ending with a "phobe". They would rather have arsenic for breakfast.

eiter der Zentralen Ausländerbehörde in Eisenhüttenstadt

He says some interesting though largely predictable things and is perhaps circumspect about what he can say.

At 95, that's probably a good idea. She doesn't drink much anyway.

Alcoholic Queen told to stop drinking.....

Based on the results, why should she? Her grip on the title is another matter. How about letting Charlie play the role for a while...or is he too stupid in her opinion. I mean his choice of women.

@bratwurst boy , merkel suprised me today :) looks like poland is playing the game o.k
"Angela Merkel faced down calls from Emmanuel Macron and other EU leaders to punish Poland in her last summit as Chancellor. Amid mounting fears the battle over rule of law could collapse the bloc, the German chancellor called on her counterparts to cool tensions over Poland's challenge to the primacy of EU law.

Mrs Merkel, 67, urged the bloc to learn the lessons of Brexit, which the veteran leader warned was a completely avoidable divorce."

Bratwurst Boy
22 Oct 2021  #1048

Well....since her decisions in 2015 tipped the referendum in favour of the Brexit....lately she said she isn't regretting anything....but maybe she regrets still something anyhow...

looks like poland is playing the game o.k

It's also a bad time for Poland-hater since alot of people (not at least Germans) are quite happy about and thankful for the polish border guards who at least try to stem the illegal flood coming from Belorussia...so the noise demanding Polands punishment is quite quiet besides some headlines...

*thumbs up*

eu-budget-contributions-by-country

It is not about EU budget contributions. It is not a whole story.
The budget contribution depend on a size of a country's economy. Nothing else.

Bratwurst Boy

It is not about EU budget contributions

Where do you think the payments stem from if not from the budget contributions?

After Brexit Germany's part is even rising....there is just only a handfull net payer (Germany the biggest of them) compared to many more net receiver....and Poland ist the biggest of those!

What exactly to you mean?
