Some people, even millions of people, have paid into the French scheme for decades.

Good point. They should get what they paid into plus interest and if they live a decade longer than planned, they are on their own. Right?

jon357
19 Mar 2023  #2192

Right?

Wrong.

Have you not heard of actuarial tables? Or the way pension schemes actually work?

For every oldie that creaks on for years, another one doesn't make it much past retirement.

They do think about these things y'know. Pension schemes don't just make it up as they go along.

Ensuring that the elderly have their material needs met is a basic duty of society as a whole.

No. Ensuring that the elderly have their material needs met is a basic duty of their children and grandchildren.* If said elderly avoided the exorbitant cost of raising and educating children, as so many social parasites do these days, then they should easily have enough put aside without expecting the "society" to provide for them.*

Universal state pension schemes are nothing but gigantic Ponzi frauds and in their current shape and form should be made illegal.

* this of course applies only to the poor; anyone earning a decent salary and not being able to save for his retirement outside a government-owned Ponzi scheme deserves all the misery in the world

their children and grandchildren.

If they have them, since fertility is not guaranteed. And even if they do, those descendants may not be in a position to help. All costs of education of course should be covered by society; France does quite well with that.

hen they should easily have enough put aside without expecting the "society" to provide for them.*

And what about those who don't do that?

deserves all the misery in the world

Obviously a Christian would never say that, however the social welfare systems in developed countries are based on a combination of religious teaching, common sense, an understanding that all wealth is common wealth and a desire not to see people starving around them.

And of course when a system has been in place as long as France's and has worked as well as theirs has, it can't (and shouldn't) be unpicked lightly.

So... no one is happy.

It's better to do it the British way; my old occupational pension is locked solid and cannot be touched. It's a very good one too.

State pensions are a different kettle of fish. If they mess around with the terms that they promised, they'll still have to pay out in benefits, minimum income guarantee, etc.

And what about those who don't do that?

Those who have decent salaries and don't save for their retirement? I wrote it already in one of my previous posts: for the greater good of the society as a whole their hunger death should be broadcast on national TV as a warning against the results of being a retard.

As for infertility, it is not a problem - people who are infertile and don't have to deal with the enormous cost of raising children should be able to easily save for their retirement. If not, see above.

All the other marginal cases of "what about those who" fall into a broad category of 'tough sh*t'. There is no point creating a gigantic, ineffective and wasteful state pension scheme to cover a minute number of marginal cases.

all wealth is common wealth

What nonsene! (☉_☉)

Apparently we will have to agree to disagree on this one. I am for a profoundly Christian model of family members relying on each other reinforced by common charity, whilst you prefer the Moloch state to regulate everything. The two systems are obviously incompatible.

Those who have decent salaries and don't save for their retirement?

Yes; they still have to be fed unless you want a crime wave or don't mind seeing poverty all around you.

should be able to easily save for their retirement.

They have already, via their state pension scheme.

All the other marginal cases of "what about those who" fall into a broad category of 'tough sh*t'.

What nonsense! (☉_☉)

That might work in the third world or on Aynrand Island, however the reality is that in a wealthy and developed society, the system of making sure that there is a social safety net works. It's not cheap, however it is far less expensive than having high levels of inequality and a society where there is discontent.

Yes, we'll have to disagree. I'd add that you're talking about systems that don't exist in France; I am talking about the actual situation right now with the actual reality of the French pension and retirement system.

The state is a 'Moloch'? Or society is us?

@jon357
The poverty is still at work, just being covered up to avoid unrest, which is necrssary in societies who are unable to deal with it.

If a fella makes poor choices, he ends up in jail or worse. Consequences happen, trying to fix it will only result in a worse situation long term. Cause people will think it's ok or normal to fail or do bad choices, so it will become a trend instead of a warning

jon357

people will think it's ok or normal to fail or do bad choices,

It is for many people. In an imperfect world we cannot expect perfection.

The issue is whether or not we can ethically see live with poverty around us in the developed world, whether we can or should live with the crime that accompanies deprivation and whether we want this to be perpetuated from generation to generation.

This isn't a discussion on the importance of a joined-up mature society and the value of a safety net from the cradle to the grave though. The issue is the civil unrest in France following Micron breaking promises made to its citizens.

Micron breaking promises made to its citizens.

Grow up. "Promises" are lies they say to get elected. Duh!
The only thing that counts is (1) legally binding contracts, or (2) violence. See Poland in 1970.

Hey, Euro bootlickers, I am still waiting for an example of how you disagree with your ruling class.
So don't be shy...This is an American forum and the water is safe...

Euro bootlickers

Do you mean European citizens or EU citizens?

your ruling class.

And who would they be? You need to specify.

Do you mean

He doesn't know....

You need to specify.

You'd have a more fruitful time talking to a wall. He's all about making authoritarian statements with no back up and ignoring counter evidence.

Why try?

Do you mean European citizens or EU citizens?

Neither. Euros or Euroholes - whichever you find more offensive.

up and ignoring counter evidence.

I don't need evidence. Euros are arrogant parasites and a pain in American taxpayers' asses.

Hey, Euro bootlickers

Do you count Brits amongst those?
If so, why?
We were brave enough to leave the EU.

We were brave enough to leave the EU.

Do you think Putin aka Novi sees a difference now? ;)

Quoting:

Western diplomacy = BIG LIES + BIG LIES + BIG LIES
Western economy = Debt + Debt + more Debt
Western weather = Better than a fridge
Western food = Titanium dioxide
Western woman = I'll leave her for you to find out by yourself

GefreiterKania
22 Mar 2023  #2207

... and yet, despite all those lies and debt, horrible weather, food and women, the entire world and their grandmother want to live in the West. Some of them even risk their lives to get there. Go figure :)

Bratwurst Boy
22 Mar 2023  #2208

the entire world and their grandmother want to live in the West.

...especially their grandmother! :)

But yeah....even with warts and all (and there are some no doubt) the West won not only the Cold War, it's winning every "war of the systems"! Undeniably! The people always vote with their feet!!!

And it's getting hot literally in France. They've even had to cancel a state visit which is something of a disgrace for Micron.

Do you remember when wealthy people all over the world would stash their money in Swiss banks because there were so strong and so private ?

Well, the second largest bank in Switzerland is literally on the brink of collapse.
Credit Suisse is a prime candidate to be one of the next dominoes to fall.
It has been on very shaky ground for a long time, and now the global banking panic has greatly accelerated the outflow of assets from the bank.

I do admit that I enjoy watching Western "democracies" as they rot into oblivion.

Like the Dutch morons closing farms to fight global warming.

I do admit that I enjoy watching Western "democracies" as they rot into oblivion.

....if you would have an interesting alternative at least!

But that's the thing, isn't it? I can say I have seen both and I still prefer the West, what now?

jon357
24 Mar 2023  #2213

have seen both and I still prefer the West,

What is retirement age there? Has it changed and was there a difference on reunification?

johnny reb

A European Parliament vote for bloc wide digital ID's is the latest step towards the "Chinafication of Europe".
Cristian Terhes, a Member of the (MEP) for the Christian Democratic National Peasants Party, has described the European Union's latest push for cross-border digital IDs as another move towards the "Chinafication" of the bloc.

Although bureaucrats in Brussels have insisted that the measure is in the interests of average citizens, the parliament's vote to see digital IDs adopted appears to be one of the latest attempts by EU institutions to pull power away from member states national governments.

Hello One World Order.

jon357
24 Mar 2023  #2215

Digital ID is big in Poland. Personally, I dislike it.

The riots in France (where they've had Digital ID for years) are the big issue, Europe-wide. Riots are not rare there, however these could escalate to a point where their government falls.

24 Mar 2023  #2216

....if you would have an interesting alternative at least!

Quit being suicidal:

1. Deport all foreign scum
2. Close borders to new foreign scum
3. One term and out
4. Make lying to voters a felony
5. Make things at home

See how easy it was, BB. Me, PF genius.

I am laughing already at your lame explanation of why none of the above is possible in a "democracy".

Bratwurst Boy
24 Mar 2023  #2217

Has it changed and was there a difference on reunification?

Sure....in the GDR we had different retirement ages for men (65) and women (60)....now it's one for all, but it gets raised every year for a month. Those born in 1974 will have to work till 70, for example.

Novichok
24 Mar 2023  #2218

Although bureaucrats in Brussels have insisted that the measure is in the interests of average citizens,

...but won't tell them that they will not be able to do many things if they are not perfect bootlickers. You have to behave to get a cookie.

Bratwurst Boy
24 Mar 2023  #2219

I am laughing already at your lame explanation of why none of the above is possible in a "democracy".

Well....it's not about the West or democracy at all....show me a functioning country which is fulfilling this wishlist!

Not even autocracies like Putin or party dictatorships like China are willing/able to....what now?

(Lotsa foreign scum, lying alot, importing masses of stuff, once in power you can't get rid of them etc....)

Novichok
24 Mar 2023  #2220

what now?

Read my 2217 and tell me why a "democracy" cannot have what I proposed.
You are a "democracy", aren't you, so what you want your "legal representatives" will gladly implement.
