If they have them, since fertility is not guaranteed. And even if they do, those descendants may not be in a position to help. All costs of education of course should be covered by society; France does quite well with that.

Obviously a Christian would never say that, however the social welfare systems in developed countries are based on a combination of religious teaching, common sense, an understanding that all wealth is common wealth and a desire not to see people starving around them.
And of course when a system has been in place as long as France's and has worked as well as theirs has, it can't (and shouldn't) be unpicked lightly.
So... no one is happy.
It's better to do it the British way; my old occupational pension is locked solid and cannot be touched. It's a very good one too.
State pensions are a different kettle of fish. If they mess around with the terms that they promised, they'll still have to pay out in benefits, minimum income guarantee, etc.
