That's not the problem, British azzholes...Everybody is "biased".

The problem is that you, British azzholes, are hostile to the US, the only country that can keep you safe from your imaginary enemy, Russia.

So which one is it? Is Russia your enemy, morons, or the US? It can't be both.

Germany is watching intensely....we have the same problem here with a media corporation, here called ÖRR, which has developed a mighty leftist bias including unwanted genderspeech, against the wishes of the majority of its forced payer.

If the Brits can get their BBC back onto the right, neutral path....Germany can do it too!

If not...the funding will be up to discussion here too...

PS: Recently it was discovered that one of the main stations, the ZDF, got all their info about the Gaza war from a certified Hamas-terrorist there, which of course influenced the reporting against Israel...but till now nobody stepped back for that enormous breach of journo-rules...

My advice would be to be very careful. This politically driven attack on the BBC is being led by the same crowd that championed Brexit. Their slogan was take back control, but what did that mean? It meant ditching workers rights and regulations meant to protect individuals from corporations. These people want to have insurance firms in charge of health, they want to scrap education goals and they want to give oligarchs the ability to set the political agenda. Their attack on the ECHR is fairly typical of their mendacious agenda.

What really sticks out from this whole story is not the accurate portrayal of Trumps words but his use of the office to intimidate and attempt to enrich himself further.

It's the same old story, sell a simple story/solution to a complexproblem created by the same people selling the snake oil.

Any media can do what it wants, if it can finance itself....but neither the BBC nor the german ÖRR is in that position. They are paid lots by us, the citizens, and HAVE TO adhere to much higher standards! If they don't they have to bear the consequences.

This is exactly the point. The politically appointed cabal that launched this mendacious attack on the BBC did so for ideological reasons. They want the airwaves to be the sole preserve of the rich.

The unacknowledged edit by the BBC did not change the meaning of Trumps speech, it was clumsy but not a lie. The ideological attack on the BBC is the same as the ideological attack on the EU.

The BBC is one of the best things about Britain I was and am extremely critical of their political coverage of Ireland as it is standard British ignorance but overall think the BBC is a good thing. I think it's a bad thing to restrict broadcasting to the rich. In Britain GB news does not make a profit but continues to broadcast its ideological agenda funded by the rich, both foreign and domestic.

I don't think foreigners should be allowed to own or fund news media but the people who orchestrated this crisis are happy to take back control and hand it to rich foreigners.

Na ja....I dunno about your home country, Barney....but in the US, in Germany and I believe in the UK too, the majority of the supporter of the far right, of the Trumps and Farage's and Weidels, comes by now from the lower classes, the worker, the poor....those fearing for their existence and the future of their own children.

The Left has literally left them....and, I repeat, now they have to bear the consequences! Unwillingness, mistrust and with that a certain kind of hostility against institutions like the BBC/ÖRR is a SELFMADE catastrophe, the Right only uses these weapons given to them for attacks.

There is general dissatisfaction with the current political system particularly among the poor. Nothing seems to improve their situation which came about as a consequence of right leaning policies. I don't think more right wing policies will solve their problems. The path taken by so called neoliberal policies championed by the right were a one way street. Surrendering the airwaves to the elite will do nothing to improve their or anyone's chances except the elite.

Na ja....I dunno about Ireland....but Trump came as a consequence of Dem Biden and a ridiculous election campaign by Dem Harris.

And neither were the last years in Germany in any way rightist led, with the left SPD and even the Greens in government till 6 months back....during this time the AfD grew and grew. I guess it is similiar in the UK...

The Right cheers successes because of the failures and down right errors of the Left....they are the consequence, not the cause!

The Left has to change when they still want to have a chance at election times....they could start with these old institutions, which have lost lots of their former glamour and trust by now....

At present neoliberalism is a bipartisan effort (in Europe in many places it's primarily leftwing like in Spain).

The problem with Biden is that he has an ego the size of a planet plus he was incompetent. The Russian sanctions played a major part in the cost of living crisis that impacted most of Europe and North America. It was this that won it for Trump and the British Labour Party. Voters are not necessarily wedded to left or right as they used to be, they switch preference frequently. The supposed rightward drift embodied by Meloni, Orban and a few others seems to be talked up as they are the most vocal on social media but they quietly drop unpopular policies like the latest incarnation of the FN in France.

The right leaning policies that exported jobs and got us hooked on debt go back many decades to the Reagan/Thatcher era. Then one wage supported a family but you didn't have ridiculously wealthy oligarchs exercising unchecked political power. The checks and balances introduced to prevent the system meltdown were removed and burdened us with more debt and plunged many into poverty.

Neoliberal ideology has been adopted by the majority of the traditional political parties from what was once left and right. The left lost hat battle a long time ago and as I said a few posts ago it was a one way street.

I don't even disagree with that....hence it should be easy for the Left to be the counter choice for these developments, shouldn't...but she isn't!!!

You can't blame all the leftist woes that on the Right or the voter...that's my point! Somehow during the last 10, 15 years the old Left lost its way....and with that alot of its former and potential supporter.

Yeah, they started listening to consultants, focus groups and the like a lot longer ago than 15 years. They adopted the economics of the right because voters were sold a pup, they gave up their jobs as industrial/manufacturing jobs were deemed unfashionable by people with ponytails. Their payoff was cheap electrical goods, two weeks in Spain and garish wallpaper. That again was a one way street. When the prevailing economic policy is to bribe people with their own money something is wrong. I see encouraging signs that people have seen through the one dimensional bollox. The good people of NY in America have backed someone with sensible European like suggestions, and there are other examples.

These relatively modest suggestions will help make living experience easier and the winter palace will still be standing.

People in the countryside tend to be conservative in outlook. When you have a selling point that is a mix of old fashioned nostalgia and fear people buy it but the economic reality is different. No one goes to the AfD for economic certainty, in Britain the economic basket case that is Reform have just rowed back on their massive bribe/lie/policy. In the US people are starting to see the economic incontinence of Trump and punished his party at the ballot box.

To me it's wild to observe how these old ideas take hold over the younger folks (like my brother, with whom I have a 16 year difference).

I guess we needed distance from 1989-1991.

The youth in America (I don't know about anyone else, except Russia) - is being pulled in two directions. Fascism and Communism.

Hating on Jews, on foreigners, on gays, blacks and browns, and Boomers - on the right.

Capitalism and Communism have both lifted hundreds of millions of people from poverty.

Two of the fastest growing economies in the world - are run by a Communist party - China and Vietnam.

India was Socialist from the 1940s to the early 2000s.

Brazil has a Socialist leader.

Colombia.

Mexico.

Communism gave people dignity and power - from Cuba to Angola.

These countries still represent some of the most educated and healthiest people on their continents.

Some early Puritans in America tried to set up some sort of kibbutz/kolkhoz-like communities and they all failed miserably. If even God-fearing, hard-working, thrifty and disciplined people like them didn't manage to make socialism work, even on a small scale, then I have no hope for general population of any country to achieve any sort of success.

When people stray from the Truth of the Gospel and try to adjust the Truth to their expectations, wants and desires, to twist the Truth to justify their sins, bad things happen. After the 20th century one might think that people would abandon fascism and communism, seeing the havoc they both caused, but noooo... "this time it will be different".

It is an inseparable part of the fallen condition of humanity and it can only be alleviated to some extent by Christian charity, not by any forceful redistribution system which - apart from trying to help the poor - brings tons upon tons of other nonsense with it. You know....IMHO the main problem, and an inherent problem as that....is the lack of choices in a socialist system...any socialist system!

The first generation can be happy...they decided to be leftist, socialist, communist....it was their free choice. They fighted for it, they maybe even died for it, now they won!

And now the inherent nightmare starts...to fulfill the socialist dream, to build a socialist community, they have to take away the choices of anybody else...ideologically, economically...till down to the very privately things.
And now...the future generations, the people born into it...are forced to live the socialist way, whatever the socialist gov decides! They are primed for socialism from Kindergarten onwards, through school...other opinions are dangerous to "the good cause"....people who disagree become "enemies" and "traitors of the cause"....in the end stand gulags and jails and maybe even the army (China)!

That's how it always happens...it's the failure inside the ideology, a socialist community can't exist when people have the choice also against it...thats why its never going to be better....there is nothing to be optimistic about, truly not!

We all want the same thing.
